For those of you that file a blade how do you stop your files from loading up and gouging the blade? I've tried 3in1 oil and trans fluid and neither seems to work any ideas?

thanks guys

try talc or chalk. I use a wax from Rio Grande called Bur Life.

Also, brush with a file card frequently. When I get to the finish filing, I brush after every stroke.

Use no oil ! Chalk and brush often especially when using a single cut file for draw filing.

You can use oil, but I've only found it to work when literaly driping wet. Chalk is a lot neater and easier to use.

Also like was said, use a file card, or if you can find one a file brush, it's got a stiff brush on one side and a file card on the other, works well to clean the teath out.

I've never used Talc Terry but the chalk I use is just common carpenters blue chalk that comes in large round pieces. I just rub the file with it. They make special chalk for filing but the carpenters stuff works fine for me and I've often suspected the difference between the two was the price.
