Filipino Balisongs vs American Balisongs

Which is better? I have seen pics of Filipino Balisongs, but I have never held one.

Or are Balisongs something that the Filipines invented and it was perfected in America.

"Benchmade" balisong will fit better than "American" balisong. Its integral skeleton handle gound from stock is ingenious, beautiful, and of course sturdy.

Any other balis, American or Filipino, are all in mid range bali now, its up to preference than which-is-better quality IMHO.

Benchmade balisongs are production knives of the highest quality.

Filipino handmade balisongs are charming pieces with all the limitations imposed by their materials and manufacturing methods.

FHM are good for there price, above the cheapies and below BM balisongs, they take a long time (week or so) of flexing and moving around, especially if you get 4 at one time

BM just kick all other balisongs butt (PC and BS Cutlery is included in 'BM'). The handles on FHM are very light and the blades vary, here in America we are concerned about the balance of the knife and how fast we can manipulate them, the Filipinos don't worry about that, otherwise the FHM balisongs would come ready to manipulate and they would have one piece handles instead of the sandwich liners.

One thing about FHM's is that when you get them and have to break them in, it makes them have more sentimental value 'cause your'e the one who made them functional as a balisong (IMHO).

While I'm flooded with angry mail every time I say it, I am of the opinion that the balisong was invented in Europe, probably France. You can read my article on the history of the balisong on my website.
