I have started to work with SS- 440c. Although there are probably a lot better steels, 440c is relatively easy to HT. This is the 3rd blade I have made from 440c and my second fillet knife. It could be a tad thinner, but I got a little gunshy. The next one will be thinner.

440c, 1/16" stock
OL- 12.5"
Diamondwood scales
Brass pins, 3/16"

excellent knife and sheath. Milt I would consider for the extra 2 dollars to go to 154cm its tuff as nails and hold a edge longer. all my fillet knives I grind are 154cm . I have placed handles /customized a fair number of 440c . They sell quite well I might add and The price is way cheaper. I find it is real hard to make a fillet knife really flexible thats why ive found several that do just that.
