Filter Straws - fine details to look for when choosing

I was looking for a filter straw for my B.O.B., for when the filter tablets i normally carry runs out during use in civil emergencies.

I still have not purchased one (due to lack of work& $$) but will be in the new year.

There appears to be two styles of filter straws, chem disinfection, and micron filtration. The chem ones use iodine resins, and the filter types use capillary style micron filtration tubes. Pros and cons of each seem to be that the micron filter types can handle higher amounts of water before they cease functioning, whereas the chem filter types will keep allowing water to pass thru the straw even after the resins are no longer effective........however, i would be happy to have either one if i needed a quick drink while gitting the hell out of the city during a disaster (and if my water supply was empty).

Prices seem to run from about $15 to about $50 in my area of the woods...I was going to get the BCB straw, but am leaning towards the AQUASAFESTRAW, as it filters over 500liters compared to the BCC (50 liters).

some of my buddies in the military have been been issued the AquaSafe straw and they seem to favor it over the chem straws they previously had.

another comparison here: Comparison of AquaSafesStraw vs BCB

any other straws out there?

for my 3 day kit I throw in a AquaMira Frontier straw weighs a scant 0.5 oz and will filter roughly 25 gallons - still primarily use tabs (Micropur) but for $10 and 0.5 oz cheap insurance

I thought there were issues with iodine resin ones not being in contact with the bugs long enough to provide safe water?
