So me, being the well-meaning but naive idiot that I am, gave my gf an IOU for Christmas for any video product she wanted. (She's shooting a documentary.)

She asked very nicely the other day if she could call in her IOU and for her present, help her buy Final Cut Pro. Help I said? No I'll get it! I say. After a little back and forth I unilatterally state I'll get it.

This morning I looked up the price. :foot:

Are there any cheaper places to get this software? I.e. much less than the $1300 apple wants?

I could pay that if I really had to, but I'd much rather find it for less than $500.

Any thoughts? (And it needs to be legit, because there cant be any issues between whats running at home and work, plus i got morals!)

hahah do u got urself a issue....you could find it with other dealers and sometimes there will be sales...but I havent seen any too often....final cut pro is professional level and you will pay for it....its a great editing software but sure does break the bank... btw hows the foot in ur mouth taste...lol...

btw hows the foot in ur mouth taste...lol...

I'm pretty sure its gonna taste like top ramen for a couple weeks... I'm working on getting a copy down here, but all the people i know seem to only have it on licensed studio machines. GRRR!

If there's anywhere in the country you could find a less than legitimate copy of it I would assume LA is the place, so at least you're in the right neighborhood. Do any of the film schools sell discounted copies to their students? I've seen it done with other types of software. Good luck.

Apple used to offer big educational discounts on their software. I bought FCP a few years ago that way. If neither of you are a student, you could ask a student friend to get it for you.

If you know a high school student ask them to get a student price. My daughter bought (of course I paid) about $1200 worth of adobe and it was just under $650.

Just checked it out on Apples online store. Final Cut Studio 2, regular price is $1299, student price is $699.

Apple will look for proof of enrollment etc. for students they're pretty strict on that. Could go with a lease on the software. They call it a lease but you get to keep the license at the end and they rarely if ever ask for the disks back. Great suite though, your getting 5 programs for the same price Avid Express use to be. Till Avid canceled the express program...

And just think with that you'll be able to make some very high end "home" movies:D
