This is one I've been working on for a few days now. Its just fitted together with the ring nut at this time. After putting it together I saw a few scratches I missed so I'll take care of them later tonight. Its got a 9 1/2" blade made out of W-5, real simular to 52100, overall its around 16". The handle is axis crown stag, the guard is 1018 with wrought iron balls, and the other fittings are also wrought iron.

Thats a beauty. How do you shape the ferule? Is that just done with a round file, or is there some other machine or trick involved? I really like the way they look and would like to try something similar sometime.....Also I really like the hammon/temper lines you get. Really nice touch. Thanks for sharing!

that knife looks very sleek to say it is such a large knife. did it start out as round bar? did you clay coat it to get that hamon/temper/transition line like that?

Terry, It started out from a 2 X 1/4" bar and then I cut it down to 1 1/4" before I forged the blade and yes I did use clay when I hardened the blade.

Ray that's what I like about you - these knives just blow me away. I'm sure glad you found your way to BF!

Ed, I think Ray uses files for his filework; he spends a great deal of time making everything just right, but he'd never admit there's anything special about what he does...
