I came across this concerning a final production run of the alox soldier. The blade is signed by the CEO of Victorinox:

I must be really late learning about this! Anybody know when this happened?
The pioneer series will probably continue, but I rmemember hearing somewhere it had a slightly thinner blade, not structurally significant.

Thanks!

Vic only makes the Pioneer version in Alox now - identical but with a keyring attachment point and some colors. Wenger is still making their version (the SI - also identical but with a bail added) but they no longer date the blades.

Felinevet has the new soldier at a much better price.

2008 had both old and new models with dated blades.

Wenger still makes the SI , basically the same thing , with a bail . Since it was a Milspec item , quality is superior to tun of the mill Wenger products .

I got two Alox soldiers , an SI , and a Pioneer , and will snap up any good examples I find .

I have that same knife only with a loop, the kind of loop you see on old slips. Possibly a lanyard loop? It has all the same tools as above, got it at sportsmans in TX before they closed down.

The soldiers with a bail are made by Wenger, I believe. Same quality, built to the same rigid specs for use by the military before the newer soldier came out. Many forum members prefer this model because of the bail.

EDIT: see cdf's post!
