When doing scales for folders I have been getting them exactly the right length, and them using epoxy and letting it dry.
I have the been final shaping on a slack belt. If I doze for just a second I have a lot of repolishing to do to the brass.

How do you folks do folder scales?

why not just poilish your bolsters after you shape your handles, so it won't matter. on fixed blades i use a drum sander for rough shaping and finish it by hand with sandpaper.

I cut them to lenghth like you, and epoxy them on. Then I rough them out usung a combination between a 4x36 belt sander with a medium grit(I think 60)belt. And a medium grit sanding disk. I use the disk mostly for the back edge where there's an outside curve and the end of the belt on the roller to do the inside curve.I use the belt on the platen to get it close to the right thickness, and then finish it with riffler rasps and hand sanding.
