I found recently, those 4 steps nail polisher in Ladies' section at supermarket can be used to help field strop our knives into shaving smoothly sharpness.
Not expecting hair splitting (can be achieved usin gloss ad paper), I found it very useful to touch up. Unless the edge is rolled or chipped, I could quickl use the 4 steps (he roughest is about same as sandpaper, unsure about the grip) up to the polishing stage that yield shaving (smoothly) sharpness. The best is hose folding type, as it has hard plastic backig & the other side doesn't abrade the parts on he knife, such as ricasso, thumbstud, etc. I actually started with 'block' type that has all 4 steps at each side. Recently a friend found he foldig type.
