It's only been a decade of searching...

Fellow bladesmith and good friend, Peter McKinley gave me the heads up on an anvil for sale not too far from him. I began negotiations and voila, SCORE! I have been searching for a large anvil for a long time. It seemed I was always too late or too poor to drop the hammer(pun intended). I could not have done this without Pete's help. This morning, he and his friend paid for and picked it up for me and stored it in a garage. I'll be heading up that way at the end of September for a festival and will pick it up, then. This is very exciting!

BROOKS ENGLAND 2 1/2 CWT (280lbs if I'm reading that right) 31inches long. The edges were left sharp and there are little chips but they should be taken care of as soon as I radius them. There seems to be a bit of damage around the hardie hole

Nice find, edge looks great.
At 280 that thing is stout.
You're giving my 199lb HB a complex.

Some hot steel will wpolish that face right up. Great score. Fine looking anvil.

Congrats, Rick! When you getting a power hammer? :D

That's a big sucker. I have a pair of Peter Wrights that are around 150 lbs each. That's approaching twice as big. You'll have to get a couple of sasquatches to help set it up in the shop.

Good score!

Sasquatch are really quite handy. Cheap, too! They'll stack 4 cord of wood for a pail of fish guts and a bottle of leave-in conditioner.

Ransom demand is in the mail.:p

Rick scored a very fine anvil for an even finer price. We both wondered about the seller's intentions early on, but it turned out the guy was/is a good guy just looking to unload an anvil that his dad had salvaged from the old Sydney steel plant before it's demolition way back when. The anvil is in GREAT shape.

-Peter

p.s. Rick, I just found two other anvils about 5 miles from where we got yours. When it rains, it pours!

Great score!! I'm happy for you

I won't rush to radius the corners but just a little section and only on one side.

Agreed. I only plan to dress a 4" section to a 1/4" radius... near and far edges.
