Let me know what you think. Even after I shut off camera I still couldn't get through the limb with the GEC. This was dry dry dry wood also.

Excellent demonstration, Ash. I had no idea the saw was poorly designed. Looks like it was cutting but certainly not very well.

Thanks for the video.

Thanks for the video Ash!! I wish it performed better. Hopefully GEC makes a change in the saw for future runs. Quick question... I know the Vic and Wenger are comfortable to use... did the fat blade get in the way at all of the saw? I'm wondering how much the grip of the knife hindered the cutting on top of the saw design.

Very useful thanks.

The GEC seems more than poor, frankly a serrated tactical would likely do a better job! Not surprised by the SAK Farmer though, I've used that saw many a time in lots of different situations and it always manages.

I too wonder if the GEC is compromised by its bulky shape and large blade sticking out? Looks like it's a paperweight or show knife but no worker:grumpy:

I didn't notice the blade really getting in the way but the main problem I think is 1) the saw is thick and 2) there is only one row of thick teeth instead of 2 thin off set rows like on the swiss knives.

Actually, I was thinking the same thing. However, despite its bulk it does carry well in the front pocket. I've had it in my pocket since I got it and so far it has not been intrusive and seems to almost disappear into the bottom of the pocket. I'm thinking that the saw is not so good for wood but may be of more use as a bone saw. I haven't tried it yet but I think it will do well for cutting through the rib cage of a deer for field dressing. As to the large blade sticking out, yeah it does get in the way if you try to wrap your whole hand around the knife. Its ok though if you keep your fingers along the blade instead of over the top. The main blade is excellent, and there is little interference from the saw. The overall size and shape of the Lumberjack make for good ergonomics, its wide, thick and shaped just right to fill the hand. This knife could have been one of GECs best if not for the complete failure of the saw design.

Thanks for the review. I have used a pocket knife saw in the past, and if they are not well designed, they are terrible!

Outstanding Ash! Actions speak louder than words, and as far as I'm concerned you've settled the issue. I'll just keep on carrying my Farmer, thank you very much! ;)

Very impressed by the Swiss saws. I love GEC knives, but there is no excuse for putting out a product like that saw.

Thanks for the review Ash!

They really need to start testing their non-knife tools A LOT MORE. I am sure many of us still remember the 2012 bottle openers... It is a shame to have everything else perfect and then to completely miss the "other" tools.

That's what I can't understand. How is it possible that no one at GEC realized how ineffective the saw really is? It's like they never expected anyone to actually use it, but what sense does that make?

Ok, so I guess everyone knows that the saw basically sucks. However, complaining here is preaching to the choir. Has anyone said anything to the people at GEC to get their reaction?

Wowzer, that was rather clear.

Thanks for taking time time to do that.

This blows my mind.
I own about 10 GEC's and they are all super knives with very little F+F issues, and they are all very capable.
I'd never expect GEC to put something on the market that is so worthless. I didn't like the design of the Lumberjack in the first place, but this just makes the whole knife an "OOPS".

I like the fact that the video was objective. The GEC saw would need to at least 3X the length to have any use as a saw.
I'm a fan of GEC knives also but the Lumber Jack will not be among them.

Great review Ash. Wow, a pitiful performance, but for a knife called a 'lumberjack'??? They should be embarrassed. Way to make your roommate do most of the work, BTW. ;)

Seriously, as someone who is gonna live with a droopy toe and is just off crutches....shoes....trust me. Knives and bare toes are no good unless you're playing mumblety peg. :)
