I was up the road about 45 miles to take my boy to brunch when I realized I had failed to clip an EDC to my right front. Aha! A good excuse to pick up a new toy. As I cruised into town I remembered the thread here about the new USA made models at Walmart. I'd been aware of Kershaws for a long time and wanted to try one with G-10, alphabet steel, etc., but had not found a modern one that floated my boat. Too slick, AO, safety lock, too small, too big, blade shape, etc., etc. After brekky it was off to Wally's. There were no new K's on display but there was a small pile of unidentified clamshells on a lower shelf behind the counter. In a stroke of surreal providence, an employee showed up right at that time. She showed me one of the packages and ran it through the scanner to get a price. Hmm. $40 sounded about right. Well, it seemed to have it all, G-10, made in USA, bladesteel alphanumeric, size, shape, an odd looking flipper, but that can be modded with a Dremel, nice bladeshape. I bought it and scurried back to the truck to free it from the plastic. As I openned and closed it a few times I was amazed at how smooth and easy it was, but something seemed amiss. As I had been scanning through this forum I had somehow missed the part about the new "flipper" design. Wow, what a neat mechanism! So I played with it all evening and again this morning, no serious cutting to give the steel a run but so far it seems to perfectly fill the need for a "light tactical" or "serious gentleman's" knife. I can definitely see it slipping into the EDC lineup.
Way to go, Kershaw!
