First post, but been browsing for awhile. Basically, y'all increased my ebay and online transactions another 100% haha.

Been collecting knives for 20 some years now, but haven't treated myself to anything new in awhile. Bought a Kershaw Leek on Hot Rod Power Tour 2011, and that was my first in years. I've recently acquired a Spyderco Manix 2 and PM2. Great knives and want more already. Since these purchases, I've decided to ditch my old Lansky system and start freehand sharpening. Bought a king combo 220/1000 and a 6000. Have a couple different Shapton glass stones coming to fill the gaps. My Stropman Billy strop showed up today, and I immediately got to sharpening with what I have. To my delight, I've made my cheap chef knives sharper than my 2 day old Wusthof knives. Feel tickled to death haha who woulda thunk it. Still have a ways to go, but they turned out better than I thought.

Anyway, thanks for the info on this board. Needed a new/old hobby, guns were getting too expensive! :D

Welcome to the forum.
Free hand sharpening is a very good skill to have and for me it is a great way to relax and focus on the task at hand.
Don't chuck your Lansky system quite yet though, I find they can be good for reprofiles or badly damaged blades.
There are lots of cool toys with this hobby so have fun and watch your wallet.
