As a self-confessed light user I had a crazy moment and decided to beat on a cheaper folder.

Cut down a 15 foot high weed and chopped it into pieces, threw my knife into trees over and over and over, stabbed it as hard as I could into said trees, batonned some wood for no purpose whatsoever, cut hardwood and forced knife through things, stabbed it into a large rock by accident chipping the blade in four places, hammered it into logs with a stick.

Now the pivot screw is loose and there's also a bit of vertical blade play, and the knife has four large chips up and down the blade.

So much for hard use.

Gives me an excuse to buy another knife though. This one didn't seem tough enough.

This just makes me sad...

Like listening to a person describe how they beat an animal or some other wanton violence to no means except the destruction of something.

Just a FYI, knives aren't meant for throwing against hard objects. The hardness of the blade is usually to high for such abuse, especially folders.
If you want to throw a knife, get a throwing knife.
Hard use doesn't mean abuse, or damaging a knife. Hard use means, batoning, chopping, some prying, just depends on the size, HT, geometry, etc..as to which knife can take what.

You just can't win.... you use a knife hard, people talk smack, you baby a knife, people talk smack.

Btw, pics or it didn't happen.

There's hard use
There's babying
and then abuse is something else all together. Sounds more like a destruction attempt.

It's ok, its his knife and its not a living object. I'm a bit dissapointed with the no pic though.

oh young grasshoppa, difference between hard use and abuse, you still know not.
go back to cliffs at edge of forest and meditate more you will.
you will know when truly ready you are when wild hare outrun flying eagle you see.
buy new sebenza you will, truly enlightened you shall be.

I was surprised by how well I did in terms of throwing. :D

If you really want pictures of the knife I'll put them up but I don't EDC a camera so I didn't capture the fun.

Anyways I tightened the pivot and with the exception of the chips and being very dull the knife is fine.
Same knife as this one.

I don't care what anybody does to their own property, I'm more a stickler for correct terminology. I have abused a couple of knives, but I knew damage and destruction was happening. I didn't confuse my abuse with hard use.
And yes, let's see some pics of those chips.

Well, I may have been exaggerating about the chips. Sue me.

Actually, there's pretty much no damage to the blade whatsoever. But even a tiny speck seems to ruin the knife for a "babyer" like me.

This was a new knife too.

Anyways the blade doesn't lock up properly, something seems to have happened to the liner because now there is noticeable vertical play when before there was none.

I think you should try that on a Strider. It would be awesome to put a chip on a $700 knife. Just keep your nail off the titanium frame though, there's a rumor that strider's titanium can't stand fingernail.

I'm not yet obsessed enough to pay more than $150 for a knife.

I've heard of that rumour though. Poor heat treating or QC?

If I was going to buy a Strider I'd have to contact the customer service and ask about that issue, because it's disgraceful for a knifemaker of that caliber.

I have heard that too, it seems to act like carbide or something.

I don't know if there was something caught in the man's fingernail or if the knife had some issues.

I just hope it isn't an issue with all their knives. I tried scratching the Zytel on this knife with my fingernail and it left no visible markings, so something is wrong.

Anyways the vertical play on this knife won't go away but I am not afraid to use it for tasks it wasn't designed for now.

I suspect that the stop pin was bent or loosened. Many if the things that you did could cause that under the right circumstances but I think it was the batoning.

I'd be careful using the knife now. The lock might unexpectedly disengage. Anyway, enjoy your new folder. 
