Finally bought a nice knife

I've made a couple of posts looking for advice on a nice knife since most of the ones I have are $10 Chinese junk. I bought a s30v Blur for $43.64. It was $58.64 and had a $15 off promotion. I can't wait for it to get here.

Did I do alright with my choice. I decided I wanted an assisted opener and chose it over the Benchmade Barrage, and Volli, because for the price I couldn't justify spending more.

The S30v Blur is a great knife! You'll enjoy it!

Welcome to the sickness. S30V is good steel and you will see a big difference between it and the knife you had before it. Take time to learn to sharpen and thin the edge because many companies grind the edge too thick. This will give you much better perfermance.

You did well, but you might want to edit out where you got it.

Deal spotting-nope!

Point me in the right direction.

My friend, you'll be spending oodles of money before you know it. I had a hard time justifying anything over $50.00 for awhile.... But you get what you pay for. I see a Sebenza in my future. Sorry bank account.

That and if that blasted ZT 0777 ever shows it's face in these parts....POW! BANKRUPT!!

Yee-haw.

Man, to a broke kid like me an S30V Blur seems like a dream, but a friend swears by his so good luck!

I wanted to pick one of these up but they wouldn't ship to NY for some reason. $58 for an S30v Blur is a pretty good deal.

It's awesome, good job. Blurs alone are addictive, let alone kai products, or better materials in general. Don't worry too much about the edge right off, Kershaw grinds pretty thin (30* inclusive I think), and s30v holds well. Good luck.

You've done well sir. After you get used to it and play with it a bit, try taking out the Speedsafe assist. Blurs ZT 350s and other KAIs with a Speedsafe and a detente can be converted to an extremely smooth manuel knife. You may like it better. If not put it back in and you're good to go.

I can tell you now that from your first post about only having $10 cheapies, you definitely just went up several dozen notches. If it comes to you with a factory edge like all of mine have been, watch out. It will be screaming sharp. Kershaws are one of if not the best factory sharpened large production knives around, especially at that price point. The S30v holds a edge very well and the speedsafe action on the blade deployment is obsessive. The only thing lacking is the extended tang but there are plenty of other kershaws with that extra option and I have a feeling the the blur will not be your last. You made a very good choice for the money spent!

An S30V Blur is a great knife, I'm carrying mine right now, in fact. You did well. Some will recommend you remove the torsion bar for the assist, but since you bought it for the assist feature (like I did), just enjoy that "Whack!" of the blade opening :) I also really like the way the S30V holds an edge, way better than the 440 or whatever mystery steel your China knives do.

One small problem I did have with mine is that the edges of the thumbstuds came quite sharp and I actually cut myself on the thumbstud when I was reaching past the knife for my keys in my pocket. A couple of minutes with the Dremel took those sharp edges down, though, and I haven't had issues with it since. Because of this issue, I would never buy a Blur with a coated blade, though. Since I was pretty careful, you can barely tell I did anything, but on a coated thumbstud it would look really bad.

So if you ever want to have a full wallet, you should just never look at another knife again. This stuff is addicting. I use to think $50 was expensive for a knife, now $50 is like "WHOA! What a deal!" It's hard to remember when was the last time that I bought a knife that's under $100.

It hurt the first time I went over $50 (551 Grip) but anymore I don't even bother telling my wife if it's under $100.
