Finally broke an Omega spring

Hoping the @Benchmade rep will chime in here...

I've always gotten a little laugh when I read or watch a review, and the author makes sure to point out that the Axis lock's Omega spring is a weak point, prone to breakage, etc. Sure, any spring will fatigue eventually, but reports of broken springs in new knives (Bugout) always seemed to me to be way overblown.

Anyway, I finally experienced a broken omega spring this week in my 903 Mini Stryker. Not a huge deal to me that it broke, as it's fairly old and gets opened/closed a lot. HOWEVER, I realized that the big problem with a broken spring is trying to get a replacement!

C'mon, Benchmade, making me send the knife in and wait a month for a simple part? What a royal pain in the butt! Time to step up your game, Benchmade, and send basic replacement parts out to customers!

So how about it, Jimmy, hook a forumite up with a set of Omega springs? Please? Pretty please??

Search for them on ebay. Purchased a few from a guy who makes them.
Tension feels slightly stronger. And of course, you'll have them in a few days.

I do agree that Benchmade should provide them to purchase. I've had two of my mini grips have the springs fail.
Completely makes the knife unusable at that point and is frustrating.

Should be free imho. I paid enough for the knife to cover and extra set of springs, no? Seems silly to not mail them out. I guess something about a warranty??

They send them to Canada to preclude knife confiscation at the border. The Anthem Axis lock has solved the problem by utilizing a coil spring.

The Anthem Lock coil spring sounds like a good idea, not that I've experienced any breakage of my three Benchmades (2 Grippies, Mini-Rukus) with Omega springs.

Yeah, I have heard that. Maybe I convince them my state is part of Canada...

I've broken a few and have had success with a seller on ebay, who's springs seem OEM or better. As mentioned above these springs seem slightly more stiff than stock. The biggest risk I have had replacing my own is stripping the torx screws when taking down the knife. Had that happen on my Nakamura and ended up sending the knife to Benchmade anyway, though on the rest it was a non issue.

I'm in Canada and would gladly send my knives to their US manufacturer if we didn't have that border problem. Just send your knife in and wait. It's only a month. Benchmade isn't the only manufacturer like this. Try getting a replacement washer from CRK.

I suppose it could take a month, what with the Holidays & what have you & if the state you live in is more than halfway across the country....
I bought several sets (3 mini & 2 large) from a seller on Etsy called EDCacord. Link should take you to the Etsy listing; you'll probably want the small size. I'm fairly certain it is the same seller on ebay that Nakedtech referred to in the first reply (post # 2)..... Confirmed.

Pro Tip: If you do send the knife in for Omega Spring replacement, request that they replace BOTH Omega Springs. If you don't, they will replace the broken one & a month later, the one which wasn't replaced will fail. I learned that one firsthand. It's also the reason I ordered the springs from Etsy.

Thanks for the link. I pulled apart a full size grip yesterday to compare springs (was thinking about scavenging them from the Grip for the Stryker), and sure enough the Grip springs are noticably larger. Who knew? I assumed they would all be identical to simplify logistics...

If I were to send to to BM, I would probably intentionally break the other spring to make sure they replaced both. ;)
