Finally decided, "Yes, I'm getting a new knife." Now...

The decision is tough for me. Currently, I've been using this cheap-y stainless knife that came in a set my dad got from his employers as a "Thank you for your employment" - type gift. Just a crappy folder, but I'm used to it, I suppose. Pics: http://imgur.com/a/gjRxF#fPaJxCL

I used to own a SOG Flash II, which was a pretty great, little knife. Alas, 'little' became its downfall as I lost it, about two years ago. Just never got around to upgrading again.

Well, it's now time. I've been convinced by others here on a Griptillian, but I'm partial to some others as well. The Manix 2 looks pretty slick, as well.

Main requirements are as follows:
  • Preferably a folder (locking mechanism can vary).
  • Preferably at least a 3-inch blade, but if it's 2.99 , I'm not complaining.
  • Nothing too massive, maybe maxing out at a 4.
  • Nice pocket clip.
  • Decent steel, but also capable of being sharpened with some effort.
  • I'd rather not spend over $100, but if it's $5 over, I'm open to that (Going by BladeOps' prices).
  • I'm not huge on assisted-opening, but if a good enough case is presented, I'll consider it

    And lastly,
  • A damn fun knife.

I'm open to any and all suggestions, unless I've apparently picked the two that most agree with, but still would love to see what others have to say, nonetheless.

Thanks in advance!

Benchmade Griptilians
Spyderco Delica/Endura/Dragonfly
Almost everything by Kershaw is at/under/just-over 100$ (and its all good by Kershaw :D)
Victorinox Pioneer

Get a manix grip is a work horse too I don't like the handled though or order a para 2. You can order it from that river site and get it in a couple weeks

A fun EDC knife with a unique & awesome lock mechanism is the Kershaw RAM, you can get them reasobly priced from Kershawguy here on the forums:-) Its one of my all time favs, plus its made in the USA!

Agreed .. Just got mine and it's very sweet, made in the USA and probably won't be available much longer.

The Griptilian is an awesome knife. Never handled a Manix, but I'm very interested in that too.

Some others to consider:
- Kershaw Carbon Fiber Blur - assisted, but can be made a manual (some people seem to prefer it that way). You can get a blem from kershawguy within your budget (or hunt for one on the exchange). This is a very addictive knife to handle. This is one you have to experience first-hand (no pictures, videos, or text can adequately describe it).
- Kershaw Junkyard Dog II - large manual flipper. Great handling larger knife, and the CPM-D2 cutting edge on the composite blade looks and cuts great.
- Kershaw Skyline - very addictive manual flipper. Slim and lightweight, so makes for a great EDC knife.
- Benchmade Griptilian - you already mentioned this. I like the drop point model (551) over the sheepsfoot/hollow-ground (550HG) and tanto (553).
- Spyderco Endura4 FFG - all-around great ergonomics. Relatively slim and light for a knife its size. You might be able to pick up the ZDP-189 version within your budget too.
- Spyderco Stretch - also great ergonomics, but with a modified drop-point blade (instead of the leaf shaped blade).
- Buck Vantage Pro (large) - somewhat utilitarian in appearance, but very solidly built. Has a deep pocket clip mounted on the base, somewhat like the SOGs.
- Gerber A-F Covert - Carries very well for a knife its size (3.8"). Semi-deep carry clip (leaves about 1/2" of the blade exposed). I normally don't care for dagger-like designs, but I actually like this one.

I would check out the ZT350s from kershawguy. It's assisted opening, which is very fun, but it works just as good de-assisted. I got rid of a benchmade for one as my work knife and I haven't regretted it once.

I've actually leaned more towards the Avid, because I like the scale material/appearance. Forgot to mention that one. Was gonna be a definite buy and kept putting it off.

I'll second that - Kershaw RAM in satin Plain Edge is one smooth animal -DLC Tungsten black coated is even better.

Kershawguy for blems - cannot go wrong.

Ah... just read that you are against kershaw... I'd say... the RAM is like no other flipper that I have handled and being a G&G Hawk design... it's the cheapest knife that you are getting from them...

I had a few options in mind, but then I saw you said it had to be damn fun.
So...
How about a balisong?
(if theyre legal for you of course)
If not, then a nice Kershaw w/ flipper + a Baliyo should do well
:D
