After months of debate I ordered my first Sebenza tonight. It is a small classic with unique graphic. I remember the first times I saw the Sebenza's on web sites and was shocked at the prices. Of course at that time the most I had paid for a knife was around $100.00. Several months ago I decided that I would not buy anymore liner lock folders since most of the dozen or so that I own have some flaw that makes me less than confident that the blade will not disengage on me when I don't want it too. I have been looking for a sturdy, handsome non liner lock folder with a blade in the 3" range for the last few months. I have considered customs but the selection is slim if you aren't looking at liner locks. The overwelming affection and praise for these knives expressed by all of you on this forum got me looking harder and harder at the Sebenza's. Another major factor in my decision was the great customer service and customer attention that Reeves knives gives and their helpful posts on this forum. I went with a unique graphic since these have satin finished blades and I am not real hip on stonewashed. (Are the Satin finished blades available on the regular Sebenza's?) Anyway the graphic cost a bit more but I think it will add a little elegance. I was seriously considering a "woodie" (I have been drooling over some of the pictures posted) but I know myself and if it is too pretty I will hesitate to really use it fully as my EDC for tougher jobs. I can't wait to receive my new knife. I really appreciate all the great info. posted on this forum (and on all the other forums here at Bladeforums). I just remembered...the first post that really made me look hard at Chris Reeve knives was by stjames with the wealth of indepth info. he posted.
I will add to this post next week when I get "her". Thanks for all the good info.

Best of luck with your Sebbie. You will not regret your purchase for a second. I just received my second large Sebbie by UPS yesterday. My first is a little over 2 yrs. old and it just gets better with use. I just had to add a second one to my arsenal.

Let us know your reactions.

I second the motion, you will not be disapointed with your choice i have a small plain which i have had for just over a year and i am thrilled with its performance.

Best of luck

I ordered my first Sebbie about two weeks ago from Bridget. It's a Small "Solar Wind" and I can't wait to get it. Took me a very long time also to decide to spend $400 on a knife. Hope I'll be satisfied:)

I received my small Sebenza this morning. You were all right, this is a great knife. Perfect size, not too heavy, very smooth opening and has a solid lock up. I wonder why these aren't offered in knife or gun stores (at least none I've ever been in)? I think I would have bought one years ago if I'd known how nice they are. I would recommend to anyone who is thinking about buying one to go for it. I have read some of the "I don't get it posts" and don't see how any knife lover could be dissapointed.

I finally decided to see what all the fuss was about and picked up a Large Classic 2000 at Blade Show West....after holding this little masterpiece in my hand for a few moments I understood completely. It has been clipped in my pocket ever since. A wonderful design beautifully executed. My new edc.

I was in the Cary NC area today and made a stop ay Beck's Cutlery. Way to many goodies in there for me, I was like a kid in a candy store ... no, wait, ... I was a kid in a candy store! I did purchase a small Sebenza. I had been unsure as to a large or small. After holding and tring them, I deceided on the small. It seems to fit in my hand better. I'm looking forware to trying it out a work tomorrow.
Then, later this evening when I was looking over the paperwork that came with my sebenza, I had a neat suprise. The "birth date" of the knife is August 16, 2000. My birth date is August 16, (many years earlier). Kinda makes it seem a bit more personal.

SLD, Welcome to the forums. I don't post too much myself, but I read alot here and really enjoy it. Congrats on your new knife. My Sebenza's born date is Sept. 20 2000, which was my Mothers last birthday before she passed away last year. I think of her very often and this is just another thing that reminds me of her. I really like the small size Sebenza. I am going to keep looking for a store that carries these as I would like to see how the large feels. It might make a good knife for camping as I like a little larger blade size when out in the field. The small doesn't draw any weird looks so far when I have used it at work and it is about the same size as most of the blades I have carried for the last 20 years or so.

Ed,

Thanks. And hi to all here on the forum. I’ll probably stay in listen mode a lot. I have more to learn than to say. I have been reading here for some time now. There is a lot of knowledge and support here. It's nice to know there is such a good community of users and collectors.
One of the nice things about the theater and shop I work in is the acceptance of the knife as a necessary basic tool and a good multitool as nearly as necessary. The only "looks" a nice knife draws there is admiration or envy. It’s kind of spoiled me being able to be that at ease with my tools. And it makes it rough the three weeks a year I work in a theater which is located in a magnet school.
Sorry about you Mom. Mine passed away a couple of years ago. I still catch myself counting her in when making plans for the holidays or outing and such. I guess it’s good that they stay with us in out thoughts.

Take care and best wishes,
Steve
