Some folks here have surely decided I would never get this built. Ha! :D Special thanks to Steve Sando and Roger Linger, without whom I wouldn't have got it done!

Nothing special. 2hp dc motor from American Science and Surplus, nice reversible drive off eBay (that Roger made work, thankfully), one of Rob's great 9" disks and miscellaneous mainframe hardware all came together over the last couple weeks.

This baby is all bolted together but I did use locktite. ;)

I found some thumb nuts online which really made the adjustments easier. I can move the table closer to or away from the disk depending on the table's angle, or pull it clear away to replace the paper. I made one angle so far to help me adjust the table to 30 deg, I think I'll make one for 20 deg too.

Here's the big picture.

This is how the table slides toward the disk. All these parts are from an old mainframe computer except the tin; I bought that. :)

My angle gauge.

Hope you like it...it sure took me long enough! :D

Excellent!
I especially like the revenge on the mainframe computer. Nice touch of old into new....Ken

Looks good.
I'm in the process of putting together a VS disc grinder myself. I finally got a drive for the motor I've had for a year.

Now I have to sell one of my AC motors, and disc. :D

Fine looking machine there Dave! I knew you'd put together something nice when you bought the disc at Blade. Enjoy it, I'm sure it will quickly become an indispensible piece of equipment. I know it would be in my shop. 2hp and reversible, Sweet!:D

Very Nice Dave

I am off to the dentist in anout 10 min. Now I will have something to think about.

I normally just try for a stray glace down the nurses top but today I can be a gentleman and think up plans for a disc grinder. Grinding my teeth there is something to look forward to.

Keep up the good work Dave it has a well built look to it.

I am pleased.

Outstanding looking work there Dave. Sure does look both functional and dependable. I notice you went to great lengths to protect your open frame motor too. The aluminum heat sink at the front adds a special asthetic touch :D.

I think I remember that DC drive is reversable too(?). Should make a great disc grinder.

Roger

BUT! its too clean! lets see what it looks like in a few months:D i like the made in U.S.A. tag!

Dave,

That is just too sweet. I can see why you've been working on it so hard. Reversable, variable speed, angle guide - that's living!

So where's the first knife?

Steve

Hey thanks guys, it was fun to build and satisfying to have done. But nothing like Steve's elves!!! Man now they are something!

I'll put this thing to work soon and (assuming I don't pull a DDave) I'll share results...

Dave
