Ok, so it's not handrubbed, but the grinds are even and it's thin and well balanced. 6" blade of ???(more to follow on that info). Natural canvas micarta slabs, stainless thonghole tubing and a Scotchbrite belt finish.

Another pic. This knife started out as a homemade knife out of a mower or saw blade, I think. My friend asked me to sharpen it up and clean up the handles. Believe me, this thing was crude. The edge was very thickly convex ground, rusty and the wood slabs were so old they were gray. Slabs were held on by brass rivets. As soon as I started sanding on the wood with a 120 grit belt, the slabs fell off with the slightest touch on the rivets. Oh great, now I have to completely rehandle the thing.

I decided that if I had to rehandle it, I might as well reprofile and flat grind the blade thinner. It is completely reshaped, and looks nothing like before. I also noticed that it was a little TOO easy to grind on; like it was not even heat treated. Well, thanks to Craig Camerer, it is now differentially heat treated, to where most of the blade is hard and about a 1/4th at the spine is soft(you can even see the line if you look close). This blade will flex, but will not take a set. I believe it will be a real cutter. Not even remotely close to stainless; in fact, it seems to change colors just by looking at it. :)

Looks good, like it'd be the first one a guy would
reach for when there's a chore to do.

That big paw makes the knife look small !!!!!

I have to add that this knife has been heat treated twice. First, by Russ Andrews, to where about 1/3rd of the edge was hard and the back was soft. It was fine at that point. That was before I ended up grinding it too thin to correct mistakes in my grinding. After that, it would bend a little too easily and stay bent. That's when I decided to harden a little more of the edge, and now it flexes but won't stay bent. :)

Well done, Danbo

Sounds like you were pretty thorough and picky with your heat-treat - something a lot of folks tend to dismiss when they make their first because they'd rather focus on the fit and finish. You done good there too - nice and flat, no 2" mark, smooth edge, straight grind lines.

Now where's mine?

Unfortunately, since yours will be nicer and have a handrubbed finish, it will be a little longer down the road. ;) :)

Now, where's mine?

Way to go Danbo! Maybe now you'll get over your phobia of actually putting a handle on a kife.:p This one looks good and ready to go to work. Keep at it my friend.

Here's another view:

Someone stayed up late last night didn't they?

It looks great, and I like the finish on that natural micarta.

Nice clean up work!

In fact, after all that it really is a knife built from scratch. Love it.

It appears the handle slabs taper down a lot when it gets close to the blade. I really like that and plan on doing it more. Very comfortable.

I agree with Roger, now you can handle the rest of them blades that you have in your unfinished box!:D It looks good!
