Took some sneaky last minute Ebay bidding to fend off a couple of nimrods, but I won the auction for this Swedish made Kohlswa anvil. Markings on the anvil are: Centaur Company, Burlington, WI. made in Sweden, M2088 58.

The guy lives fairly close to me(200 miles or so), so I am saving on shipping too.

Another view, showing how good of condition the edges and face are in. :)

Very nice!

If you need a place to store it, you know where I live. :D

Very nice.

And annoying that just a month ago or so you were claiming you werne't a knifemaker.

BUt then proceed to show all that beautiful elk

Then show a great knife

now show great new anvil you got

ANd yes, I'm jealous, can't you tell? :)

Congrats, good job stealing that. Course, you realize posting it here, that theres a decent chance that person you stole auction from is anotehr member here. :)

I believe what you have there is a farrier's anvil Danbo. And I'm just guessing it's a 116 pounder by the 58 at the end of the numbers. That should cipher into 58 kilo's X 2.2 pounds/kilo = 116 pounds. Anyway, nice catch! It's a good feeling when you get your first anvil ain't it? Ain't you gonna tell us how much it cost you old buddy? Enquiring minds want to know. :D

Max, Aren't those farrier's anvils the al el luminummm ones? My humor got here before my brains did this morning. Hope it turns out to be what your expecting. I wouldn't think twice about going 200 to get an anvil. Sure sounds like a goodone....

No secret, as the auction is still listed on Ebay(although closed). Final price is $380. More than I wanted to spend, but not nearly as much as you can spend for a brand spankin new one(and, this one doesn't look to be very used). I talked to several very wise bladesmiths before bidding on this, and was told that new, these cost $4-6 per pound. Ok, so I paid a hair over $3 per pound.

I did a bunch of research on the internet, and NOWHERE could I find anything even remotely negative about Kohlswa anvils(except for the fact that there is NO distributor in the USA).

So now you won't have any excuses for not forging out beautiful blades. Looks like it is in excellent shape, at a fair price. Those are supposed to be real good anvils too. mw

Danbo, great to see you here! And congrats on the bargain, too. Got hammers, will pound, now! Now we are going to be looking forward to seeing some blades from that new anvil, too.

Mike, forging out blades is a for sure thing. Whether or not they come close to being beautiful like yours, is another matter altogether.

The Ebay listing had the anvil at 125 lbs. 58kg x 2.2 = 127.6 lbs.

116 lbs or 127.6 lbs?

Doesn't really matter to me, I'm just happy to get the thing. :)
