after months of experimenting and frustration - last night i finally figured out my own technique that results in razor sharp smooth edges.
1. I use a smith's sharpening system to coarsely profile the edge
2. I then use a lanskey ceramic rod box thing at 20 degrees and hone the blade until my fingernail runs smooth with no nicks
3. Finally I strop the blade using the back of a notepad.
results in razor sharp paracord popping success! once a guy at a gunshow taught me to use my fingernail to test the edge and find the problem spots i was golden. i'm so happy i cant stop sharpening things lol
