Finally gave in and bought a pocket clip for my Wave

After 2 months of carry, and the Wave has served me good, the sheath yesterday had its final call for battle. I was working in a confined area at work, and my sheath and Wave kept getting bumped and banged around stuff, and that about lunch time I felt it hit something, and I hear a loud bang. The nylon strap on the back had broke, and the Wave hit the floor. I have not ever really been big into carrying stuff on my belt, so I did some looking, and read on the pocket clip/lanyard ring. I did some searching and most people said they like them, simply because they are durable, and you can carry the Wave more discrete in your pocket instead of a hulking lump on your side. After reading many reviews on the clip and lanyard ring, they all seemed very positive, so I went to the leatherman site and bought one for $5. I figured it is a good price, and if I don't like it, I suppose I would buy another sheath, but like I said I prefer pocket carry, and hope the clip works great for me. Does anyone else have one of these for their Wave/Charge/Surge? If so please let me know what you think of it.

I have the Wave clip, and didn't like it. It is on the side of the tool that opens, and thus was always opening in my pocket. I always had an L shape in my pocket. No good for me. If it was on the closed side of the tool, like the Sideclip, it would have made more sense.

The sideclip was a good place to have it, but I think they did this design for when you pull the knife out, the plain edge knife will be there at your thumb to open, which is a plus, cause i heard from some with sideclips. I have also heard this problem comes from over oiling the pivots. mine used to do this, but only when I used to much oil, but last time I cleaned them, I coated them with wd-40, and wipe them clean, and never again had the problem. I can hold them upside down by one side and shake them like they would if they were in my pocket, and wont come open. Try using plain WD-40 and no oil, and maybe that will solve your problem. I had read about this problem people had on Amazon, and people told them to do this, and it worked. They also said if you wanna oil, just one drop of 3 n 1 oil will do it, plus overdoing the oil will attract dirt and pocket lint.

My Wave is just too worn in. I can pretty much open them like a balisong. Don't really carry it much anymore, so it's not an issue for me. Was just giving you a negative testimonial for the sake of research.

I thought about getting one then I remebered how many said the blade opened in their pocket. I have had that happen with other knives. I don't want it to happen again. Ouch!!

I liked having a clip for my Surge. 2 times the clip came off while in my pocket. The second time, it was lost for good. IMHO, Leatherman should sell them as perhaps a 5 for $5.00, as I'm not the first person I've heard of to lose them in that fashion.

My clip came in today, and it is on the Wave in my pocket now. Seems pretty solid!! I had been carrying it in the Ballistic nylon sheath I bought when I got my fuse. I can see already that I am gonna use this for primarily casual carry, and I am gonna use the sheath while only at work. They did say it is covered under the 25 year warranty too. I broke the screwdriver bit, and I sent them an email, and they are gonna send me a few replacements free of charge!!! That is true service!!
