After years of hesitating on the Blur finally picked one up from a member on the exchange. 1670OLBLK, love that OD and black combo. Problem is, after some other recent purchases, the Blur can't find its way into my pocket. Its a great knife and after I warm up to it, I'm sure it will see plenty of pocket time. Its feels great in the hand, has decent steel, great size, and I really like the blade shape. The other purchases were a ZT 0200, JYDII, and a couple of Zings. Some pretty stiff competition. The reason it took me so long to get it in the first place was two fold, concerns over the wear and tear with the aluminum handle, and to a lesser extent, the lack of a flipper although not entirely a deal killer for a knife in this price range.

The question for you folks, how durable is the coating on the handle? I guess, all in all its not a big deal but its a really good looking knife and I would hate to take away from that. Its also the reason I never purchased a black blade before. Am I nuts, I use my knives and I expect wear and tear...ugh. Its stupid, I'm treating this tool as an object of my desire. First couple of bashings and I will be over it. Anywho, I can easily see why this knife has the following it has. Now, I will need to pick up a second one to de-assist. Now for the pic's

Its a lot more wear resistant than you would think. I alway make sure to not put it in the pocket I have my keys in or change. With all thqt being said I have 5 I carry off and on and they still look pretty new. The nice thing about OD is it looks good with some use on it anyway! Just carry it already!

Good to know, thanks guys. Its been with me since I posted. Now what will my next one be? The carbon fiber is pretty hot, and so is the burnt orange

I just got two, black blur (1670BLKST) and purple blur (1670TSPPRST). Think I'm gonna like them quite a lot. Very comfortable.

The one thing I want to change is the clip. I thought that clip was bad on the leek but hell, this thing rides way to high for my tastes.

Has anyone ever replaced the inserts with glow powder & epoxy? That would be perfect on a black one

I believe I seen a naked aluminum with blue glow inserts. I think it was Bobsigs. Should be pics in the blur thread somewhere towards the middle to end.

I put my knives to use and constant carry (constant being everywhere but the shower). I carry my primary in the same pocket as my keys/change/whatever. I carried my blur solely as my primary for several months. The handle is pretty scratched and dinged up, but nothing horrible or deep. I actually broke my blur before I managed to scuff up the handle to the point that it bothered me. My blur is still waiting on me to ship her back to kershaw; I just haven't had the chance, or cared much since I made the jump to the ZT line to avoid further breakages.

All that said, the OD looks awesome. I would put her to use, a knife like that's made to be carried and used. But, if you enjoy her looks more than getting her to put out for you...that's all you hoss.

It's your call (obviously); but would you rather look at her occasionally for the rest of your life, or see her every time you need her.

Good luck with the blur addiction though; I can't help but think about buying every pretty one I see...'till I remember I'm already broke.

The aluminum is anodized, meaning a layer of aluminum oxide was purposely formed on the outside. The oxide layer is VERY tough and wear resistant. Much more than just raw aluminum. If you de-anodize the handles to raw shiney aluminum it'll look pretty but raw aluminum is easily scratched and will oxidize naturally anyway, and unevenly I might add.

Weech3, I hear ya, I have at least one knife on me nearly 24/7. Glad to know how resilient the aluminum is. I have a feeling I will be carrying the Blur more ofter. Primary carry is in the front right pocket, where it will see most of its time. Since its fairly thin and flat, it will fill double duty in a back pocket when carrying a ZT up front.

SticktoDrum switched his blur to a deep carry clip.

Glow inserts are from KryptoGlow :D

The anodizing holds up very well to normal use. If you carry your keys in the same pocket as your knife, though, they will scratch up the anodizing a little. Here's mine after about 2.5 months in the rotation (5 blades in the rotation, roughly equal carry time). It's really not noticeable unless you're looking for it.

Given enough time, it could all wear off. Here's my Alox SAK Classic that I keep on my keychain. I've had this for a while, and it takes on more wear on account of it actually being on my keychain.

The only reference I have to anodized aluminum would be those cheap key holders. Glad to know it will hold up under normal wear, plus I mostly use the clip
