I've been trying to get one of Nathan's knives for years, but my trigger finger was always too slow. I finally got online when he was posting a run & I got in kinda early.
I'm getting a Basic 5 with Delta 3V & natural (unbuffed) micarta. I'm super stoked! I'm going to go camping for the first time in 10 years & I'm just going to bring that, along with a multitool & a hatchet. I love Fall camping! The brisk morning air is so invigorating!
Anyway, just wanted to share this. 🤷🏼‍♂️😁

Like a lot of folks here, I am blessed to own many knives from many different Makers/Manufacturers. Most of my favorites fall into what I consider the "field knife" category, with a blade length of 5" to 7.5" (*And I have a good deal of experience with quite a few of them). As a disclaimer, I don't consider myself a "fanboy" of any particular brand/Maker, nor do I see myself having a penchant for any particular price range.

That being posted, the BFK (*or "Basic 5") is definitely in my "Top 10", and most likely in my "Top 5". Like many of my favorites, I view it as a helluva' lot more "GO" than "SHOW". I know that a few of the CPK guys tend towards Nate's "fancier" models. I'm the exact opposite. I prefer my "SDFK" to my "Signature SDFK". I also prefer my BFK to my FK3. Don't get me wrong, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the fancier stuff. I just prefer the "basics". For me, they're like that '86 Monte Carlo, with the mismatched fenders and the boosted "modern" LS, that goes to the drag strip and straight-up cleans house.

As jbmonkey mentioned, it's a wonderfully engineered and well-made knife that just gets the job done. The fact that it's offered in Nathan's proprietary 3V heat treat (*whether traditional or "tweaked") is just icing on the cake. I will even go out on a limb and say that, for many future generations, it will mostly likely become an "heirloom" piece, with "Dad" or "Grandpa" waxing poetic on "how much of a b!tch it was to score one".

Anyhow, congrats on your new score. You got a definitely got a good one. Happy camping.

*Do me a favor. 86 the "hatchet", score you a Bahco or Silky, and try the BFK/folding saw combo for a couple of your outings. 🙂

Reported for causing jealousy 😁

Nathan's knives are awesome. He does his best to make sure that they're comfortable tools to use hard if need be.

Nathan's done his homework and Me being a BUSSE guy before finding CPK doesn't change the respect that I have for his work.

Enjoy your new tool and be sure to post pics of the work you have it do.

It will shrug it off and ask for more.
