Love the knife.

Any recommendations on how to loosen the sheath a little. I can't seem to pull the knife from the sheath with one hand. It's definately secure, but a little too tight.

Thanks

Congrats!

As far as loosening the sheath goes, I've had mine for about 8 months now and it's the retention is every bit as good as the day I got it. My extraction method is largely in the thumb, though, so I'm fine with it being next to impossible to just yank out. :p

If you want to try to loosen it up a bit, the easiest method I can think of would probably be to shave off a tiny bit of the metal on the handle side of the retention nub to create a ramp so that the nub is acting less like a wheel trying to hop a curb and more like a wedge trying to split a log (if that makes any sense at all. If not, shine a flashlight into the sheath and you should see what I mean.)

Take baby steps as best you can, it could be easy to overdo this mod.

Thanks for the ideas, but I would hate to mess up the knife, trying to get it to fit the sheath. I would rather mess up the sheath. I may have to try making my own from kydex.

If you search back through the forum, you'll find that very question asked — and answered — a number of times. I believe the best solution so far involved heating the sheath with a hairdryer, but do the search to make sure and get the details.

Congratulations on getting the BK-11: great little knife!

You may well be able to do something similar to the sheath by cutting an angle off of the far side of the notch in there, but it will definitely be a more risky solution as there isn't much room for error.

Indeed, aftermarket kydex might be a better solution in your case.

Good luck!

This appears to be one of the threads Dawson was talking about.

I've had the same problem, but with time and usage, the sheath started retaining the knife less and less. Not to say it's got problems retaining the blade, it holds it very securely. Though I now can easily withdraw it with one hand.
Just remember to use your thumb when extracting it. Just use those muscles! :D You'll do fine.

Thanks for the replys and thanks for the link Fascion. I had looked for those previous threads but didn't find the answer I was looking for.

Thanks guys:thumbup:

Just push/pull the knife in/out of the sheath while you are watching tv. It will take a while, but I promise it will work. Stop doing it when you approach the desired tension. Also, take care not to hurt yourself.

Great knife. My sheath was just right on my San Mai version. I added a metal clip that Kabar sells for another line of knives. I though it was a little big for a necker. I will probably make a trim leather sheath for neck wear. I like the handle paracord wrapped but took it off as it gets messy when dressing deer.
