I wanted one Buck 110 and 119 as they are Buck's signature knifes IMO. Not a bad knife and for a midsized fixed blade they are priced right.

I collect and like newer types of Bucks myself (Buck/Striders/TOPS, Alpha Hunters., etc) but the Buck classics are the classics:thumbup:

I love the 119 just because it is exactly what you say, a signature knife. I dont have a use for it at this time but wouldnt be without one in my collection.

Good for bear hunting :p

Congrats on a nice knife. I got one today for the same reason. Mine is the Walmart special with the nylon sheath.

My Buck 119 came with the nylon sheath and is not brass in color, but new. I like the looks of that leather sheath.:D

AW, you can use your BCCI discount on sheaths as well;) they and Buck Stuff are in Addition to your two knife purchase!

what is the 119 selling for at wally world these days. I dont shop there very often. every once in a while my wife and I will go to get this or that. The WW around by me in So Cal dont usually have many knives let alone Buck knives.

The 119 is IMO one of the most iconic American knives of all time and most definitly a flagship model for Buck. All in all if your a collector you just can't complete your collection without one also they carry with them a certain nostalgia that's just plain American. While I'm not fond of the super pointy blade profile for more practical purposes I'll admit that it is a very attractive blade.

I got in trouble with just naming a store without a price. I might get escorted off the forum with this. I need to pass the ball on this one.

For 10$ or 25$ per year you can upgrade your membership here and discuss such things and more through "private messages" ;)

One of my favorite knives ever. It's my "everything" knife. I've abused the hell out of mine and its no worse for wear minus a chip in the blade where I cut metal banding' off a shipment at work.

Other outdoor/sporting goods chains also carry the 119 at an artificially low price - often with a leather sheath. As to it's uses - it isn't a Becker BK-2, so don't expect to be able to effectively pound it through logs - or to split them, either. It is a great cutter - it's long edge and deep hollow grind really help there. It's finger guard makes a wet hand slip unlikely - it's phenolic handle fits my medium+ hands perfectly. You can still buy the brass & rosewood version - the 119BR - although it's 2012 MSRP is $125 vs the black phenolic 119's $85. Here is a basic 119 with a standard KaBar Utility Knife' for size comparison:

PS As to use - it is great for yard work - branch trimming, etc. My basic one is kept in a kitchen drawer - my 'ultimate' butcher knife!

Aint the phenolic handle too slick for any real work? The looks suggest it will get slippery with sweat during real use.

Y'know, while the 119 is indeed an icon, let's not forget the one that has -- at least in the past -- enjoyed a great deal of popularity among hunters and outdoor types: the 105.

I have had a 119 for years, but never had a practical application for it. Last year I finally got a 105, and I was surprised at how competent it is in a wide range of applications.

Ironically, I can pick up a Wally-World 119 for less than a 105, but the 105 finally became "affordable" at the last factory sale I attended.

Now, of course, I have to send one to my son to go with his 119.

I've actually wondered whether the knife depicted in the knife-hammered-through-bolt logo is the 119 or the 105, given that the 105, at least back in the day, was itself iconic.

No denying, however, that the 119 is today's icon.

The 119 is WAY better if you're attacked by a bear......but I always figured that one could just as well carry a 120 and have an even better bear-stabber.

The 105 does indeed have more applications.

:)

Here's my latest....

To get us back on track, though......I must say that I find the Chipflint 119 to be a tiny bit more slender of blade than the standard 119--and, for me at least, it seems better balanced than the regular 119.

Good looking, too.
