Well thanks to a trade, I finally got my first khurkris. Never handled any HI products before but damn if these knives aren't well done and solid. I've read the safety guids and tips and I have a few questions. What can the CAK chop? What do you guys use to sharpen and how do you usually do it? Are only certin kinds of khukris for utlity? Like only one model can do this and only another is set for another task? What do use to polish or clean up after use?

I haven't bought a knife in 2 years, almost 3. I waited to get my hands on a HI Khukri so that should tell you all how pleased I am.

Welcome and Congrats!:D

You have one of the most bombproof khuks out there. It's probably a time saving exercise to just list the things that an CAK CAN'T chop:p

There are some khuks that will handled different jobs with greater efficiency. Also, it's pretty obvious that you wouldn't want to use a thin Kobra to try to take down a 9" oak tree. The CAK is a pretty much do-it-all khuk. The only thing that it doesn't excel at is machete work. For that you'll want a Siru, Gelbu, Kobra, or Chit:thumbup:
There are dozens of ways to sharpen and care for a khuk, but I would suggest reading through the Tips and Tricks sticky at the top of the forum. Lots of good info gleaned over the years in there.

Once again, welcome and congrats:)

Polishing a user would be a waste of time IMHO. I have some "pretties" and some knuks that just get used. After a while when I get tired of scratches I rub them down with a Scotch Brite pad.

so do you like the knives??? i hope i was accurate with the ratings i gave each knife in the sales thread...

i am not great at sharpening....but i have some tips on polishing......

basically, mother's mag polish works great.....buy a tub at walmart for around $4, and it should last you for a long long time.....it can polish to a mirror finish depending on how many times you apply it to the blade....it will also leave a protective barrier and allow you to store it without fear of rusting....and don't worry about getting it on the brass or wood, it actually works to polish wood and brass also....

Yup you sure were! I left you some feedback thing on the exchange forum. I love them!!

Mothers mag I've got some of that. I'll have to do some reading about the sharpening and stuff. Go figuare, I got to test them out and it starts pouring rain outside.

i'm glad you like them.....

the two kobras and the sirupati, you probably want the sharpest edge possible, but for the CAK, you don't need it shaving sharp....it's mainly a chopper, so a utility edge is all that's needed....

What do use to polish or clean up after use?

Do you like to keep a mirror finish on your blades, or no? Like Bruche said, a user would see many a scratch, and keeping the original finish up would probably take a good deal of work. Unless you're a polishing fanatic, the steel will patinate eventually, though wood chopping will polish points of contact pretty well on its own. As such, I just try to keep the blade dry and let nature take its course. Some fok patinate their blades right off the bat with stuff like ferric chloride, vinegar, or gun blue them. Usually I enjoy the mirror finish for however long it lasts. The kamis probably put a lot of work into it!

Cool another kuk addict on the way up. If you get this sickness as ad as me you wont be able to live without one in your hand. What cant you chop with a CAK? So far I havent found anything cept maybe railroad tracks, splitting mauls and boulders. You have a good blade there. Now just get outside as often as possible and chop on old logs etc as much as possible your technique will develop naturaly. One tip On the swing forward let the weight of the kuk cause the final snap just throw it forward like a hammer. That way ya wont burn as much energy.

You shouldn't chop with them. They're best suited for spreading peanut butter.:p;)
