The Journeyman is one of the Emerson knives that was very high on my desired list. Unfortunately, by the time I was able to actually afford an Emerson, the Journeyman had gone out of production. I kept an eye in some of the usual places, but never found one I liked. I recently did a Google search for it, and lo and behold I found an online store that actually had new ones in stock. Must've been leftover stock, or maybe they were lost in a warehouse for awhile or something. Anyway, they were new, so I snagged one.

I'm not going to post any photos, partly because I can't be bothered to take them and upload them, especially since my old photo sharing site (Flickr) has made it practically impossible to do,so on the iPad version of their site (which is what I use, no PC). And partly because, well, it's a Journeyman, and I think we all know what they look like. Mine is the partially serrated stonewash finish.
Up until now, I had been EDC-ing a CQC-8 (same blade variety), which in th absence of the Journeyman seemed to me to be Emerson's most all-around general-purpose knife. I believe I'm going to switch to the Journeyman. I just like the the straighter blade shape better, I think, compared to the CQC-8 which we know has that slight curve to it.
Why was the Journeyman discontinued? Was it a poor seller? I'd think it would be a great seller, since it's an excellent general-purpose all-around design. Many of Emerson's designs are somewhat more or less specialized, or niche market, if you will. But the Journeyman is actually a fairly generic design (no disrespect intended) that, much like vanilla, should have mass appeal.
Mine has 2013 on the blade. Was that the last year they were made?
Anyway, looking towards the future, I believe the Commander will be my next Emerson, which of course is an iconic Emerson design. So that may be what I get next, unless there are any holiday specials that catch my eye.
