I tend to shoot single shot shotguns I don't do much high volume shooting and a singleshot just works for my style/likes. A few years back I traded for a new in the box 870 lefty . I was ok but not quite right. The only barrel made for us lefty's is a 28" vent rib with remchokes . I knew I wanted it shorter so first it went off to be cut down to 18.5" bead replaced and rethreaded for choke tubes . First this move the balance point back a little which is much better . I shot it on the trap range several times run some slugs and buckshot through. This gun is getting close to the feel I like Had a local smith shorten the stock 1/2" and redo the pad the gun now feels like idt belongs in my hands I am holding my own with trap guns with it :D
I added a sling finally have a repeater that I am comfortable with

One thing about barrels shorter than 22-24" is the brutal intensity of the report when the gun goes off. You won't have any buddies sitting beside you in a duck blind after you fire a couple of rounds through an 18 inch barrel. Powder is still burning as the load is leaving the barrel and creates quite the intense 'whoop'. How do I know this? I tried hunting with a 20" barrel on an 870 many years ago. Great for shooting and pointing but hell on the bystanders.

Hunt by myself 99% of the time. When I do hunt with some one else it is rabbit over dogs so the other hunter ins't right beside me
