I've always thought Spydercos were pretty awful looking, what with that giant hole in them and the resulting HUMP in the blade to make room for it. :barf:

But recently I saw an original Delica Clipit on ebay and bought it for $15. It had a few nicks out of the blade and the clip blacking was all worn, so I sharpened it and buffed all the black off the clip which is now a darkish gray.

So I like it all right. It's 1.9 oz, 1.7 without the clip. So that's pretty damn light. I can take the clip off and put it my jeans' little coin pocket. I hear the new ones have steel liners or something.. why?

Overall fit an finish is good. I'm not blown away or anything by it but I can't find any flaws except a slight front-to-back blade play. But it's probably a decade old (correct me if I'm wrong). Could use some jimping on the giant hole hump for my thumb tho.

My first knife with VG-10, and I have to admit I really do like that steel. Was super easy to sharpen with my crappy sharpening stuff and it gets a very clean, sharp edge. Very, very nice.

I like the little volcano-shaped texture on the handle. Quite effective.

So yeah, good knife, wouldn't pay $80 or whatever for the thing. Would get another for $15 though :D

The new versions of the Delica feature jimping on the spine. They also feature a new texture pattern that is more effective IMO.

The steel liners as far as I know serve as anchor points for the 4 way clip and are meant to increase handle rigidity. Doesn't make as much of a difference in the Delica as it does in the Endura.

Most Spyderco lockbacks have slight vertical play, they're designed like this.

They're great knives. Ugly for a good reason. If you want another inexpensive Spyderco to check out, you might consider the Tenacious if the design appeals to you at all.

ok I oiled it up and now I'm starting to like it. Very smooth. Probably the smoothest knife I own.
