I finally picked up an 889 on Saturday after it had been on my want list for quite a while. I must say that so far it's everything I hoped it would be

It's a 2006 model with black blade and black scales.

When I first handled it, I was most impressed by the grip. The TACCOM scales are really grippy and the angled rear part of the handle fits into the heel of my palm perfectly. I also like the extra finger choil on the tang allowing you to choke up on the blade for fine work.

Mine locks tightly with no blade play and it held up to the spine wack test as described in a recent thread. For what it's worth, the liner engages somewhat past midway on the blade. A lot of force is required to slide the liner to the left for closing so I don't think it could fail short of snapping in two.

I carried it on a leisurely hike yesterday (clipped in my left hip pocket) and used it grill sausages and tend the fire at a backyard campfire last night.

Cool 889 Messy. I am saving up for one of those.Let us know

how it works out for you.

Thanks Hawkeye. It is going to be my EDC knife for at least the next few weeks so I should get a good feel for it. I love it so far!

Ah, a man that uses his Buck like a Goose uses his Buck
I love that 889SBMF.

Jeff...I have been carrying my Rosie Dorado on the belt and the 889SBMF in my right hip pocket for about a month straight as my EDCs. As of Friday I switched the 889SBMF to a 882. But the 882 has the same fit. I know you will like the 889 (or maybe a 882) to augment your own Rosie.
Long way to say, "GET ONE". You won't regret it.

That 889 sure looks like a fine knife! Now, if I can only figure out a way to fit one in between my 110 purchases...

I understand. My 889 purchase was put off for a number of months. Each time I was ready to buy it, I found other knife that I just had to have!

Now I bet you are wondering why you didn't get that 889 sooner Messy.
That's how I felt after I started using mine.

I have been carrying Rosie on the right side and have a laynard on
her that goes around my belt. She has been staying put.The snap
did unsnap but she stayed pit.I think that you were right about
if the snap was to come across from the other way might be better.
Can you tell if the 882 is going to replace the 889 or is it to soon
to tell.
Jeff

Congrats on your new acquisition! The 889 is an awesome blade.
The wife has her eye in the green handle. I may give it to her for her birthday. She carries an AlMar I bought her 2 yrs ago as her EDC, but she wants something more rugged and easier to open.
And if I don't get her one, she will just take mine.
