Holy Sh*t, I was so used to Dial-up I don't know what to do with the extra time, look at more knives I guess.

It's like looking through new glasses, what else is gonna amaze me about DSL?

You can download porn really quickly. You'll never go back to dial up again.

What Danbo said. ;)

Oh, I hope you have a firewall. If you don't, you need to get one.

Not real familiar with firewalls, is it hardware or software, if it's software, any freeware available any one know of, and if it's hardware what's the best bang for my buck?

It can be either hardware or software. Before I got the computer I now have, I used a freeware firewall by Sygate. It worked just fine, and the price obviously was right. I don't have the link anymore, but if you do a web search, I'm sure you find a site where you can download the firewall.

Windoze XP (SP2) has built-infirewall of mediocre quality(ditto for other WIndoze systems). Additional/replacement software firewall (such as ZoneAlarm which is IIRC free) is strongly adbisable. If you use an opensource OS (Linux, *BSD) you have all the "software" in place already, chances are that you need to build yourself a new kernel with traffic filtering capability (relatively simple process).

Please provide more details about your setup and i'll try to give you more specific pointers (i use dedicated firewall box running one of the opensource OSes that acts as NAT/firewall/SMB file sharing/local MX for me).

Hardware firewallis more expensive (can't get one free unless you have an old computer just gathering dust that you can put to good use :) ) but they are usually easier to set up - the ones with decent (l)user interface. Chances are that your telco or whoever it is that provides DSL service to you gave you a combined NAT/firewall/broadband modem box - check it out for yourself.

Here is the link for the Syagte firewall http://smb.sygate.com/download_buy.htm , it can be downloaded for free and works real well. I use it on all of my computers.

I just turn off the Windows firewall, I am not sure if it is really any good and don't want to find out. The Sygate product is very good, gives many more options and advanced features that come in handy. One point though is that you shouldn't try to run two firewalls at the same time. They could interfere with each other and cause problems.

Thanks for the info guys we'll check 'em both out.
Zone Alarms is still free and I just got a new upgrade today. They really keep on top of things.:D
If you don't already have it you need Adaware and a good spy killer such as Spy Sweeper from Webroot.
I also have Spyware Doctor and another one that keeps my system completely free of spyware.
Goggle will bring any of them up of course.

Forgot to mention the only thing better than DSL is cable although my SBC DSL approaches some low end cable speeds at 400 Mbps!!!!

Welcome to the real internet! Now you can look at things almost as fast as you want to and develop a really fine case of ADD...:):):)
