Hey guys. I just got me a Stockman tonight, and It rocks!! Last one I had was a Buck Cadet, but I lost it at work somewhere a while back, and didn't think too much of it. However, I really missed the stockman pattern. It always screamed "working knife" to me, you know? So I went to Walmart tonight and got me another one, and it is really, really cool. They had no Black handled ones, so I got the wood handled Cadet, and I was impressed with the fit and finish it had. Better then my old Black handled one. I was surprised to be looking through the blades and reading "China" on one. The wood handled ones are made in China? I had no idea. Well, I was a bit disappointed, but then I started looking at the knife again, and dismissed my disappointment. Made in China or not, it is still made in a Buck factory, to Buck standards. It is not some china-junk knife. Like I said, the fit and finish, walk and talk, and blade grinds are better then my old plastic handled, made in the USA Cadet. Who would have figured I would be happy to have a knife made in China. Well, like I said, it is a Buck after all, and a kick butt one at that ( I love that three spring design). Buck stockmans rule!!!

The Buck Cadet is a very good work knife. I've known more than a few guys in the machine shop who carried a cadet as their main knife, and did well with it. I have not examined any of the China Bucks, but they are covered by the same Buck warrentee, life. The only company who has factory support like them is Victorinox.

Does the China cadet have the stainless steel pivot pin like the U.S. made black handle ones? I bought a Buck 301 stockman in an army PX in the late 60's, and it took am amazing amount of use. I finally had it worn down a bit by the mid 80's.

Thanks ElCuchillo for reminding me, maybe tomorrow I'll carry Andy Wordens old cadet.

That's a negative on the pivot pin, Jackknife. At least it's not visible on the outside. Ok, so there's a difference between the US made Buck and the China made Buck. On the US one, the bolsters were part of the frame, and you could see the pin. On the China made one, the bolster is attached to the frame, and you cannot see the pin. Time will tell I guess how well this version holds up to heavy use. And yes, bring out Andy Worden's old Cadet. It needs to stretch it's wings a little.

I love the Buck Cadet. I got one for Christmas a few years back from my father-in-law, and carried it forever as my primary edc before switching it out for something else. I may have to do like Jackknife said and get my old Cadet back out and let it take a few more laps in my pocket.

Oh man, please do. These little three spring stockman are so cool. If this thread makes everyone who has a Cadet stashed somewhere pull it out for one last call of duty, I will feel like I contributed to society.... a little bit. LOL!!

Alright, you sold me, the Cadet's going in my pocket again starting tomorrow! Viva la Cadet! :D
