I finally got my BK14 in the mail today, and after a quick strip/patina//wrap/sharpening later, it's looking good:

I might get a chance to put it through its paces this weekend, so I promise I'll have pictures of it in action soon enough :D

It does look good. The 14 is an amazingly useful little blade, it will not disappoint!

I love my 14, I usually keep it on me for my EDC. You should definitely pick up a sheath from Azwelke or one of the other kydex guys because of the dulling issues with the factory sheath.

I love it already :D

If I wear a groove in the sheath by repeatedly pulling the blade in/out, the dulling should stop, right?

Yea the sheath will break in eventually and the dulling will stop, but it's up to if you wanna wait for it to break in or purchase a new sheath

I have two. One cost me money, the other cost me dignity(and I'd do it again!). I did a wrap on one and the other is waiting for a set of Ka-Bar scales that I'll be ordering soon. After those show up I'll try my hand at making some kydex for them and my remora(gotta figure out what to do for a wrap on that little bugger.)

As for the sheath issue, I used the file on my leatherman and some sandpaper to open up the area near the edge on the blade and that seems to have worked. I'm still looking forward to some kydex for them.

I agree that an aftermarket sheath is ideal, but i have what im guessing is the newer one with less glass content, probably same as you since you say you just got it. i always ride the blade in and out on the spine of the blade, not pulling toward the edge. i have never had an issue with dulling. Also i tested the dulling by slicing the sheath several times the full length of the blade and the dulling was minimal, i could still cut paper just needed a push starting it and i could no longer shave hair cleanly but a few strops on a wallet i loaded with a little polishing compound (i have a custom strop on the way) and it was back popping hairs. on the newer sheaths if proper knife care is taken the dulling is very minimal and easily corrected.

Im not the type of person that pulls out his knife once a day, i probably draw my bk11 knife 50 times a day, half the time just playing with it whittling a stick or making toothpicks or stropping on my hand or whatever, but the amount of use and play i give my knife the blade should be completly dull by now from the sheath and its still slicing like nobodys buisness. jmho
