I've had it for over a week actually just getting a chance to throw this up finally. This is also my first custom folder, gotta be careful cuz just like custom fixed blades these could be addicting. If you hadn't seen the other threads this knife was built by Alan Davis and it is our interpretation of a BK2 folder. I was inspired by Dawsonbob's (right?) BK2 folder thread from way back. I PM'ed and emailed several makers whenever someone who didn't have nosebleed prices on their folders popped up in the Makers Knife Exchange. No one would take on the challenge until finally Alan did.
The knife is made from: blade 154cpm .210" thick so thicker than 3/16th, liners/spacers/clip - titanium, the liners are .085" thick, black micarta scales, blade and spacers are stonewashed, the liners and the clip are anodized blue. Fit and finish is awesome, the little bit of filework Alan did works perfect at enhancing the knife without making it too fancy.
Hmmm I shoulda taken measurements, has a 4 1/2" cutting edge, oh well I am at work now so I can't. I also need to weigh it on the postal scale the next time I am at the post office. It's a chunk, certainly not light by any means but for being as big as it is and being a folder it's not bad. You can get an idea of the size from comparing it to my customized BK2. As you can see the handle is practically spot on exactly the same as the BK2 handle. Of course to make it a folder Alan had to downsize the blade until it would fit into the handle. Lock up is solid, like fixed blade solid, and I can't get any movement in any direction. With the bearing system Alan put in it snaps open buttery smooth with barely any effort, closes just as fast as the cut I received on my thumb can attest when I didn't move it in time when I was messing around. Sharp enough to shave arm hair. I chopped at that log in the picture, oak, maple, ash I don't know what it is it's hardwood from my woodpile, and it still shaved hair. This knife is better than I ever imagined when we started the project months and months ago and I couldn't be happier.
First some pics for those who didn't see the in process photos:
