Hello all, and happy new year! I just have a few noob questions:

Got my CQC-8 today, and I'm very impressed with the edge, fit, finish andoverall design of the knife. I think I will be a satisfied EKI customer.

I notice the knive is VERY tight. Opening the knife takes some force (hevn't tried the wave yet) and releasing the liner lock is pretty difficult. Anything I can do to losen that up a bit without actually taking the knife apart and adding some lube to the pivot? I'm not really comfortable taking it apart.

Secondly, can anyone tell me how to tell whether I have a titanium locking liner, or if mine's made of stainless?

I appreciate any information you people may offer.

You can put some blade oil on the brass washers and pivot without taking it apart. The liner will losen as you use it.Just open a close the knife while watching t.v. or what ever. The more you open a close it the looser it will become.Good choice I am a proud owner of cqc-8, super cqc-7,cqc-11,cqc-14, super kerambit and persian.:D:thumbup:

Help me out here: I don't see any brash washers. The pivot is the where the black philips-head screw is, correct? How do I get to the washers? And must I use blade oil, or can it be BreakFree, G96, or somesuch else?

I haven't seen any brass/bronze washers on any EKI"s and I own a bunch. All of mine are nylon or nitrile not positive as to which. Just unsrew all the screws and take the knife apart. It ain't hard and they are easy to go back to together. I use tetra grease on mine but have started using a drop of garage door chain oil. Seems to work fine and lasts. Hope this helps, keepem sharp

agreed. all of my washers on all of my emersons are all nylon/plasticish. I use a touch of gunslick on them and it works like a charm.

Alright...I'll try it out. Thinking, also, about maybe getting some nice Micarta scales for this thing. Any ideas? I guess I could send it to STR, have him make it a framelock, and then thrown on some custom scales. Anyone have anything like that done?

I have a cqc8 and mine was the same just play with it. After a couple of day mine was as smooth as silk and sharp as a razor.

Thanks, people. Sixstring, I appreciate the link. I think I may go with Micarta over more G-10, just because I like the texturing/color options it allows. Might hafta wander over to STR's forum and pore of his pics. BTW...what kinds of use are you people's 8's seeing? I almost don't wanna cut anything with mine. :D

ive cut wood , wire, pried stuff apart. the finish is a little boogerd up but i keep it sharp. after you learn to sharpen the damn thing you wont be scared to cut anything at all. just use it like a tool , thats what it is . love the 8 its my most used emerson

I really do like the knife a lot. It feels VERY solid and even though it's large in my hand, I am comfortable with it.

One thing I noticed on the blade is that under the diamond of EKI'S trademark, there is a date of 2006. Anyone know if that's the actual manufacture date of this particular knife? Also, if that IS the manufacture date, does that mean my 8 has the titanium liners on both sides?
I hope I'm not getting to meticulous here. I just like to know what I'm working with. Thanks, people.

Thanks, SixStrings...anyone know whether that "birthdate" means I have titanium or ss liners? I seem to remember hearing the change took place in 2007, but I don't remember where I saw it.

IRRC knives made before 2007 were all Ti liners. now they are one side Ti and the other stainless

I appreciate that, Six. I'm gonna keep looking for the announcement just to be sure, but it makes me happy to have gotten an 8 with the original build materials. I don't want to hafta worry about rusting liners.

J

The liners rusting out isnt gona happen over night. Unless you put your knife through alot of water it shouldnt be a huge concern. The arent going to rust like some of the blade steels out there, but will if water left on there isnt reoiled. Emersons arent the hardest of knives to dissassmble or reassemble.
