Finally, after tediously reprofiling and sharpening, i got it to whittle hair! It seems that vg-10 is way harder to make sharp than all my 154cm blades, to me at least...

I used a lansky system, 20 degrees inclusive, and stropped on a leather belt without any kind of polishing compound. Here are the results.....

A Lansky system! Those things aren't good for anything! You should get a "Sharp Edge Maker Pro Slice 3000" now that's a real knife sharpening system. :D ;)

Good job. That's some course hair. Mine too fine to whittle it, I'd have to get one of my dog's hairs. He wouldn't mind though he leaves them all over the house. :p

Eh. Its the girlfriends hair i found on the sink.... Mine are too short to hold, lol....

Congrats on reaching a new level of sharpness. In my experience, VG-10 is just as easy as 154cm in getting it to split hair. Both of them are easy.

i used to have an ez sharp which is similar to a lansky. i could get a knife shaving sharp but i didnt like the ammount of time it took to get it there. i gave it away once i bought a set of paper wheels. check out this video if you havent seen it before http://knifetests.com/kII.html i have a friend that wanted to use a knife i made to shave his head. he said it left his arm smoother than his razor. i was afraid he would cut his head so i passed on letting him try. check out this thread i started if you want to learn more http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=578787

No, im real anal when it comes to sharpening, and there is no visual wire edge. I use 1 stone, make sure the edge is even on both sides, then take my Surefire and inspect both edges carefully, looking for a wire edge, then move on to the next stone. I can split the hair using both sides of the blade, and I would think if there is a wire edge you wouldnt be able to do that...
