Just bought my first Emerson. I bought the Commander because I love that blade shape, blade feels solid as a rock so far.

Although as this is my first Emerson and my first linerlock I have a few questions.
First, as I continually flipped the blade open for the first hours after I bought the knife I noticed some heavy(ish) wear where the liner meets the blade

Will this develop into any future problems down the road? I also noticed that the pivot screw seemed to adjust after every 50 times I opened the blade any tips on fixing this? Also, any tips on taking care of my emerson would be much appreciated as I hope to keep this blade for as long as possible

Thanks:)

Take it apart right away and remove the copper lube. It is really not needed. Use blue locktite on the pivot. Finally, the liner should settle at about 50%. It will take a while to get there. If it ever goes too far, the liner lock is covered under the Emerson warranty. Also, you may want to-I hate putting another forum's name out there, but Emerson is fairly under-represented on BFC-check out the Emerson area on USN. They have a take down guide, and a guide to centering the blade. Read through those guides then take it apart and clean it, then apply the locktite.

I have two emerson's now a micro commander, and mini CQC 15. I am now looking for a full size blade model. I friend sold me my first one and now I am hooked. I did take both of mine apart and clean up the gunk inside and relubed with a light coat of fp10. both open up very nice. blue locktite or clear finger nail polish will keep the screw from backing out.

You don't ever lube a lock face. Also, if you are after longevity in the knife, stop playing with it, use it as it was intended (to cut). ;)

Personally, I wouldn't use any lube on an Emerson. The Nylatron washers will break in and be smooth without it, and I have found that it has a way of getting on the lockface and causing slippage. As for how far the lockup has worn in, this is normal. They get to about 50% and just settle in.

Update: So far I dissembled the knife completely and took off some of the extra lube and re-lubed with Froglube. I also dropped in some blue-loctite in the pivot screw and that completely fixed the problem. The liner has now broken in and settled at around 50%...now to center the blade.
Thanks for all the help so far guys

I've tried this. Are you sure it's possible? Have you been able to do it? I can't stop playing with mine. The wave is just too fun!

Good advice but most important to remember.... It is a hard use tool use it in good health enjoy it for what it is. I love all my Emersons and work them all like I own them because I do. :)
