So about a month ago I was browsing some knife dealers looking at the new Spearpoint XM-18's and was interested in purchasing one. However, I knew that if I was going to buy one it had to have CPM-20CV for blade steel. So I emailed one of the retailers who had 2 in stock, black and blue G-10 and dark green. I received a response monday confirming they were 20CV and immediately ordered one. Problem was, I was out of state at work and wouldn't get to see my new XM for about a month.

Fast forward to yesterday when I finally got to handle it, and all I can say is WOW! The fit and finish is excellent, G-10 and titanium are flush, lock up is at about 10%, no play in any direction, blade came perfectly centered and stayed centered even after loosening the pivot. It flips fast and hard, both light switch and push button style. The out of box edge was one of the best I've ever had (shaves hair very easy).

I'll be posting pictures later, but this knife has met and exceeded all my expectations. I'd heard some stories about off center blades and such, but there are no problems to be found with this specimen.

Very cool. Nice to read honest excitement (many of us have shared) Enjoy it in good health.

Wanted to showcase the attention to detail as far as fit and finish goes. This is pretty much matched with my Sebenza. Also, I wanted to show just how sharp looking the edge was.

P.S. Sorry for my bad phone camera and poor photography skills.

Nothing wrong with those pics.
Fit & finish is amazing. Is that the dark green scale?

Ya, that is the dark green scale. Wasn't sure I was going to like it (last XM-18 I could find), but it actually looks really good. I'd love to have a blaze orange scale though.

I was thinking how well that would look with copper standoffs & LBS. Probably going to try that someday.

Awesome! My first was a spear point also, I love it. Enjoy the new blade!

I am looking for my first Hinderer my question is , is the spearpoint and Spanto the same until you get to the end of the blade where the tanto is . Is the grind line the same height up from the cutting edge on both of these. Thanks John

Fantastic blade, I too have a dark green cpm20cv spearpoint and have carried and used it every day since I got it 4 months ago. I've added brass standoffs and LBS to mine, complements the green very nicely! Copper and bronze hardware would look great too, but I like the more golden color brass has.

gtopper, the spearpoint and spanto are similar but not the same. The height of the grind on the spearpoint is slightly higher than the spanto (there was a moment when I had the same question you did and was wondering why my spearpoint didn't quite have the same look the spanto did aside from the obvious tanto tip grind, and it was because the height of the main grind is indeed different).

Gundamaniac thanks for the Imfo I ended up getting a new Spanto 3.5 flips easy and fast top notch quality and fit and finish . Another question with new detent I can't get it open with thumb studs , if I went with a gen 3 can most of them be opened with thumb studs?
