Ordered a Delica 4 last weekend, and it arrived Tuesday last week. Right out of the box I did an arm hair test and all I could say was... well, inappropriate for here. Except for me actually saying "Jumping Jesus on a pogo stick!" I stropped it a little, then did a few swipes on the wallet (I use a cardboard strop), and it became the sharpest thing I have ever seen. I literally did not have a word for how sharp it was. My Mora was my sharpest, and my Delica is at least 30-40% sharper. I am so close to just emptying my bank account and buying a bunch more.

Thanks, Sal and everybody else at Spyderco, you just made the entire rest of my "collection" (can't even really call it that now) obsolete. Seriously though, I am damn impressed with the knife. I can see why it is so popular and so heavily recommended.

The Delica4 is a "gateway" knife into the addiction of Spydercos. Even so, after buying many other great Spydies, you'll still find the Delica to be a great knife.

I got my first Delica in '92. Now I have 10 delicas and 20 other spydercos. The Delica always finds it way back to my pocket.

First spydie for me as well (Besides the Bug :D) but it is for sure the one that starts the obsession, have fun with your future purchases, they will be many.

Thinking I may get the Manix next, I like the blade shape and steel. All of the fun of getting a Griptilian, author the stolen thumb hole! (let the flaming against me begin!)

Before going and getting another knife, I'd suggest reprofiling your Delica down to ~25 degrees inclusive, and picking up some sub-micron diamond pastes or sprays. Hair whittling.

What does it come with, angle wise?

That's really variable--I'm pretty sure that the edges the great majority of knives are put on by hand. I wouldn't be able to tell unless I had it in front of me.

Spyderco usually does a good job though; most of the Spyderco's that I've had pass through my hands were between about 30-35 degrees inclusive. That's a pretty good working edge for the great majority of users out there. Reprofiling down to 25 degrees inclusive will really take your knife to the next level of sharpness--I'm consistently surprised at how much sharper knives get when you knock off even just 5 degrees. Even though it may not seem like much, there is a noticeable gap in sharpness between 25 vs 30 degrees.

If I do get it resharpened, I would prefer to get it professionally sharpened. With me being very... not good... at sharpening, I run a big risk of doing more damage than sharpening. I also need to get my Boker and Ka-Bar resharpened, so I have reason to go find a good but cheap sharpening service.

You say you are not good at sharpening, have you tried the Spyderco Sharpmaker. Its pretty fool proof and will get your knives plenty sharp. If you have not tried it I bet it will work for you.

For touch ups, and beginner sharpeners, the Sharpmaker is pretty hard to beat. I'd be willing to say that it is the best on the market for its intended purpose and price point.

However, even with the diamond rods and the ultrafine rods added in, it's still a pretty limited system compared to doing things free hand or with another system with greater control over edge angles.

To get to edge angles below 30 degrees inclusive, you are going to need set your bevels at another, shallower angle. I like to subtract 10 degrees from my edge angle, and use that as my bevel angle (for example, at a 30 degrees inclusive edge, I will set a 20 degree inclusive bevel). It would be difficult to accomplish this on the Sharpmaker without going free hand.

Welcome to the addiction/sickness/problem...whatever else you want to call it! I'll have to agree. My Delica 4 is among one of the sharpest Spyderco knives I own...and minimal work made it even sharper.

Congrats, it really is an addiction/sickness. I personally just got my second knife, a para-military2 digicam and am loving it (my first was a grey Delica 4). I love spyderco, gave my Dad a partially serrated Delica 4 last Christmas, and my brother a dragonfly 2 with green g-10 for his birthday this summer. They both love them very much, my Dad is asking for a Dragonfly 2 for his birthday.

I know I wont be able to hold off my interest in another one very long; the Sage I is so darn irresistible and the Endura and Delica 4's being in Orange now is REALLY tempting. I need to control myself or else my family will think I'm nuts. :o

Even though I own more expensive Spydies (including a G-10 Delica), I find that I keep coming back to the FRN Delica. It's my most carried knife.

Fancy passing on your addiction to your father and brother:p You should be ashamed of yourself.

I can neither afford a set of decent stone, nor can I afford a sharpmaker. Very limited funds and having no job means I can do much anything for over a few dollars (I had set the money aside for the Delica months ago).
