Well folks, after a few months of talking about this blade here on BladeForums, I am now the pround owner of not just one, but two awesome Martin Knives model BT (bushcraft tactical). 4" of S30V, G10 grips, awesome feel and amazing blade! Great sheath included (which I had modded a bit by Armoralleather, who you can find on this site)!

I will do a full review and post more photos soon, but suffice to say, to me, this is THE perfect do all blade. Perfect size for EDC, bushcraft, survival in the woods and urban city. It feels amazing in my hand!

I liked my first one so much, which was a smooth blade, that I worked a deal with Ed Martin for a second with serrations! I own a lot of blades, but this one takes the cake! Dealing with Ed and Newt at Martin Knives was great. They are both great to talk to and will take the time out of their work to have a real conversation with you on the phone or via email. I know I will buy from them again!

Also, they make their own sheaths. However, I found it a bit big for me so I took it to my local custom sheath maker (Armoralleather) and had them trim it up for me. Dwayne and Stacy are great folks and I look forward to a ton of more business with them! Dwayne is working on a custom sheath right now for my BT. I'll post pics of that once it's done.

Hopefully I'll hit the woods in a couple of days and give you guys more of a review. But I have to say, if you're looking for a true custom maker, with only a 1-3 month wait time, check these guys out. You will not be dissapointed!

Yeah, I also received mine as well. I'm trying to profile the blade to more of a Scandi grind. It's a very stout blade...I ordered 1095, but was sent S30V which is turning out to be pleasant surpise minus the PIA to sharpen. I have their horizontal sheath and it is a little bulky loaded with a large firesteel and Fallkniven DC4 sharpener. It may give my Bravo-1 a run for it's money as my go-to outdoors blade. I'm flying out on a trip this week, so I won't get any pictures up probably until next weekend. Great blade for the money and I can only assume it will perform quite well when I get it out for some serious tasks.

looking at their web site, I'd say they are very much influenced by Bo Randall in their design.

I know many of their knives are Randall inspired. I know they use to sell them out of a local shop which also sold Randall and the Randall reps were getting upset cause the Martin's were equal quality but cost less, so that store had to pull the Martin's off the shelf. This was back in the day when they were just starting out. Yes, the horizonal sheath is a bit big; great quality but big. I sent mine back for a vertical and then had a local guy modify it. I love it now, but still want a Kydex also! As far as S30V, I use a BRKT strop kit and it seems to do the trick. Does take a bit, but I've got mine pretty darn sharp. I've never been able to get a blade "razor" sharp, so this is pretty close. My Bravo 1 was also my go-to blade, but this one is the new favorite. I can't wait to really put it through some testing!

And the website is www.martinknives.com you can also Google them and find a few other reviews

Oh, and I haven't measured the thickness, but it's probably a hair less than a 1/4 inch. Nice and thick, but not too thick and perfect balance.

Yeah, it really is a very sound design and I think it's listed as 3/16", but it's about the perfect balance of stout with a good edge.

I also want to get one of those... but maybe I'll take the BT Special, which has got a 4 3/4" blade (cause I already have a smaller knife --> fallkniven F1).

Question is: is it better in the 1095 or in S30V? The second is tougher right? Which of the two cuts the most and better holds its edge?

I accidentally received S30V when I ordered 1095. I still think I would prefer 1095, but after talking with the Martin brothers at Blade Show, they assured me that they don't harden S30V as hard as most knife makers. They leave it a little softer (still quite hard) to make it easier to sharpen in the field. I did some re-profiling on it but it's still a a lot harder to sharpen than a good carbon steel blade. The design and sheath system are a top notch combo and Martin Knives are very solid and functional.
