Finally got my OD1

I have been waiting for the OD1 since Oct. The place I ordered it from kept moving the date that they were supposed to get them. Finally I went to Walmart and bought one. It is a beautiful design, smooth flowing lines, G10 on one side and frame lock on the other. What more can you ask for? This has to be one of the best "bang for the buck" in the knife world. The blade is perfect for EDC kind of work. The clip is mounted kind of low so too much of the handle sticks out of the pocket. So I changed the clip to a tip down option. I thought this might interfere with the frame lock but it does'nt and the grip is fine this way. Another reason I switched the clip to tip down is the detent does'nt seem too strong. I was worried that the blade might open in my pocket so tip down is a little more safe. The blade seems to open a little too easy. If I hold the OD1 in my hand closed with the blade facing down and just gently shake the folder the blade will open. I hope this won't be a problem cause I love this knife. The blade is almost the same shape as the Leek. It just has a little more curve in it.
BTW when I was in Walmart I saw the all black Leek. It looked gorgeous. I have the rainbow one and I think the black may be my next.

If you find the blade to be a bit loose then definitely tighten the pivot up a bit.
I have found there is a very fine line of too loose and too tight on the OD-1.
Might take a few minutes.
Congrats on your purchase.

I just got back from Walmart with mine and I have the same impressions. The ball detent seems weak, and I can swing the blade open without touching the flipper. I wanted to change the location of the pocket clip as well but I stripped out one of the screws, so it won't be moving just now.

It does feel great in the hand, though. Very nice knife, I'm looking forward to carrying it. And man if it isn't fun to play with!

ROBB, congrats on your new OD-1. They are very popular, it seems.

stercus, congrats on your OD-1, too. They are very nice, esp. for the money.

For you stripped screw, go to Kershaw's contact page:

fill in the information and they'll send you new clip screws along with a clip.

Also, like mike mentions above, tighten the pivot screw if it opens too easily. If its like other Kershaws it should be a T-8 Torx.

I saw a photo of it in Blade Magazine, and couldn't tell if the blade is stone-washed or bead-blasted. Otherwise, it looks great! And I didn't know that Wal-Mart carried them; I don't think any in my area do yet. Hopefully they will soon.

BTW: How much did it cost?

Very fine beadblast finish. Right around $40 at walmart!

I'd say (or did I read it somewhere around here?) the tension of the ball detent on the OD-1 is a trade off made to make the flipper work easily and smoothly.

Everyone that has accidentally squeezed the lock while trying to open the OD-1 has already experienced what more tension on the ball detent would be like. ;)

Yeah, the detent does seem week. It's the reason why I haven't switched the clip to tip up. Only tip up option is the blade facing the front. Since I do not want to stab my pecker, I keep it tip down with blade facing back. This is the only 'con' that I can give this fine knife.

Other than that, I love it and it is now my fav EDC in a growing rotation which now includes Kershaw Scallion, Kershaw Zing, Spyderco Native 4, SOG Twitch II and Benchmade Mini Griptilian.

Those that are into fast deployment in a SD situation ...this model is AWESOME for the Reverse Grip "Inertia Opening".

Like already mentioned, I believe this OD-1 detent has less tension on it, because of the flipper mechanism ... Overall Great Knife!!! Take Good Care and Be Safe Always.

God Bless :)

Thanks 2bros, tightening the pivot helped a lot and you're right there is a very fine line between too tight and too loose.;)
