You know what- I swore to myself that I wouldn't post one of those "wow just got my first CRK" type posts- not that there is anything wrong with that :) - but gosh darn it I just can't help myself.

After almost 2 years ( !!! just about gave up ) waiting list, I am now the proud owner of a small classic Sebenza with stainless Devlin Thomas ladder damascus blade. Love the solid (yet light weight !) feel of the knife, fits my hand beautifully, nicely balanced too. No safe queen here, for that amount of $$ it has to work to support itself. I opted for the plain handle- partly for financial reasons (stretching the budget for the Damascus....) but am really glad that I did anyway as it looks neat and clean and functional.

Big problem- it already looks kind of lonely by itself.... damascus Mnandi perhaps... ??

Well Bluey, I WAS gonna be that guy that made a post about finally getting a Sebbie, but you beat me to it!!:D I just received mine about 10 minutes ago and came to make a post about it. Got the same as you, small classic and I love it! I was expecting a nice knife, but you really can't appreciate it until you own one. Looks like I'm hooked. Congrats on your new piece also. Didn't mean to steal your thunder! :D

Congrats. "I just got my Sebbie" posts are fine with me. It's a normal reaction to such an incredible knife.

There is nothing like the arrival of a new Sebbie!! CONGRATS to you both!!

Oh man,so you guys just bought your first Sebenzas.
I am very sorry for you as now your wallets will never be the same. There is a reason why the wallets that CRK sells are not on the large side.:D ;)

Thanks to everyone for the very friendly welcome and kind words ! And, MD13 I certainly know exactly how you feel  , congratulations also on your new knife!

@ U812- LOL you certainly got that right ! Most I've ever spent on a production knife but absolutely no regrets.

@ ktk- OK I'll try and work out how to post a pic .

Thanks Bluey, and thanks to everyone else for the kind words also.

Didn't mean to hijack your thread, just wanted to ride on your coattails!

I'm not a huge damascus seb fan. I'm always afraid to use them and the S30V works so damn well for these knives. I carry my plain small classic Seb more than any and now I'm looking for a large Classic. Enjoy!

Thanks ! I think I know what you mean about the damascus- but IMHO it depends what frame of reference you view your knife in- damascus steel is far from a fragile material.

Personally, I view my knives as tools- and I look after my tools. But I also like the patina that any good tool gets with use and age. I have some wood work tools that belonged to my grandfather and when I use them I get a great feeling- perhaps of keeping a tradition going or something ? I don't know .Damascus or other 'laminated' blades throughout history have been used for performance reasons- they traditionally take and retain a great edge (just look at Viking swords or Japanese swords for example).

I agree though, nothing at all wrong with the 'plain' blades !!

Today at work I briefly used my small sebbie to cut open some plastic wrap. afterwards I clipped the knife to the inside of my pants pocket. I put my hand down by myside and I felt the knife moveing. It almost feel out of my pocket. I was in a hurry and did not take the time to properly clip it back in my pocket. (It was no fault of the knife) It kind of shocked me that I almost lost my knife. The thought of my knife being gone might make this grown man cry! I got my knife from a fellow formite; so I don't have as much invessted in it as some do, But it is mine and would hate to part with it. I hope I have lerned from this. Please forgive if I am boreing you guys. Anyone ever really lost their knife or like me almost lost it ?

Oh I'm aware that damascus, laminated or plain, are by no means delicate. Traditionally they have been sharper because of the amount of carbon they have. But rust comes along with that. But Devin Thomas along with others have stainless damascus. I don't know how well they perform. I'm not saying I wouldn't own or use one, I just prefer the S30V right now. I like a knife with a stonewashed or satin polished blade more than a damascus pattern. I like staring at the blade from different angles and seeing the profile, and it pops out so much more beautifully with one of the aformentioned finishes.

Yes , almost lost my small regular. It worked its way off my jeans whilst out cycling . I heard it hit the road so was lucky , had I been offroad I wouldn't have heard it and it would have been gone . I took the clip off and now carry
in my pocket.
Paul.

I saw my first ladder damascus at the solvang show. The ladder damascus is amazing. Your purchase of a classic in ladder is an excellent choice. Pictures do not do damascus justice.
