Well, after waiting nearly 2 months it finally arrived. The first thing I did was Rip out the P60 LA and install the P61 To test how bright it was, by shining it in my eyes. That was my first mistake, unless you like having a big white circle in your vision every time you blink for 15 min i would reccomend against shining it in your eyes. Its bright, REALLY BRIGHT. I work in a warehouse, with no windows, so i turned the light off to test it, if i was at the top of the rack shining it down it would light up a area on the ground about 50 times bigger than my mini-mag(i know i shouldnt be comparing it to a mini-mag, but they are the same size and its the only other light i have other than my ARC AAA) I love the range on it, it will still light up a wall 50 yards away. Then i decided to test it for waterproofness(its a word, really :D) I put it in a 10 foot tall waterproof container and filled it with water for a hour, it was fine, i dont care if it can go any deeper cause i cant see myself ever needing it to. Then i decided to test its ability to blind a person while fighting. I asked a co-worker to clip it to his hat, keep it pointed into my eyes and spar with me. Let me note i can take this guy 9 out of 10 falls under normal conditions. When we started to fight i found it VERY hard to judge distance when blinded and VERY hard to block because i could see nothing of his upper body, only his legs. Anyways he took me 8 out of 10 falls so i would say it would be very useful in SD situations. And remember, i was fighting when i was expecting it, in a SD situation i'll bet you would scare the crap outta the attacker. All in all i am very impressed with the lights performance and ruggedness. A Very good light that you could trust under any conditions. Anyhting you can throw at it ill bet it can handle. Sorry for the long winded post.

not longwinded at all, thanks for the review, i think this will be my next surefire, but i'm not sure, i'm waiting for the m2d. and then there's a 6p, just cuz of all the different directions i could go from there.

Yes, the M2 is awesome. Waterproof, shock absorbing bezel, lock out tail cap and scratch resistant Pyrex lens.

Must . . . buy . . . M2 . . .

Thanks! I've been looking at this light for a while. I ended up spending the money on a Benchmade 806D2 instead, but the M2 is still on my list. I think I'll have to get an Inova X5 Tactical to wring-out the batteries, too :D: If I keep hanging out here I'll need a bigger toy box ;)

Pete,
The M2D ain't gonna happen.
There are better things in the pipe.

The A2 will be the flashlight to have in the near future.

Al, has the design been firmed up yet? Any release date? I haven't seen much mention of it lately over on the Surefire board?

I believe the A2 physical design is pretty much sorted, and is different to the design PK was carrying around at the SHOT Show 2002.
The programming of the Digital Regulation continues to be refined.
Expect something like 50 minutes constant-on Digitally Regulated Bulb runtime followed by 15 minutes of "it's time to change the batteries" LED output, they then may start flashing. Perhaps. Nothing is finalised yet.

As for a release date? :laughs: If I say I don't want Santa to have to bring me one...

The M2 is an awesome first Surefire.

Note that I said "first", because you may soon be hooked. Then you'll look at the E lights, then maybe an M3 or M3T. How about jumping right to the M6? Those lights are sure addicting.

The M2 has the advantage of being a very versatile "base" to add accessories or conversions and build a light "system" around it. It puts out "big" light in a package that still fits in your pocket.

Welcome aboard. :)

PK has started a thread here ask us what colour LEDs we want in our A2 Aviators...

I quote from PK himself:
Guys,

I am seeking your advice on this matter.
You know we are working as fast as we can (I know it's not fast enough for you) on A2 Aviator.
The Fist digitally regulated Incandescent handheld torch, A2 Aviator from SureFire.
Is has 3 satellite Nichia LEDs embedded into reflector.
These LEDs are user replaceable assembly.
However, the big question is...

What color LEDs would you prefer and why??

Regards,
pk

I know that SureFire isn't as good as other brands at involving it's customers in product development... Brands such as... erm... well there's.... erm... anyway...

Now's your chance to get your say read by PK himself on a topic that is very important.

well i'd heard rumors that the m2d might not be happening, but the way it's laid out in the catalog it sounds real good. Guess i have no excuse not to get an m2. of course the aviator sounds sweet too.
