First attempt at knife sheath:

Okay, so this is not as easy at it seems!
I'm a teacher so most of my tools are at school (which I need permission to access) so instead of my belt sander I had to use a Dremel. That didn't work out so good.
Rivets for ease of assembly.
Not exactly what I wanted but hey it works!
Version 2 on the way...to be continued (might have to bust out the needles and some thread)

Also wrapped the handle with some ostrich; probably going to change it out to black.
Need to finish stitching it up; too late for pounding out the holes!

As usual the last is the best.
Well okay, not the best as I'm still making tons of errors, but I'm learning!
Not sure if I'm going to stitch this one up, sort of lazy.
Bowie is next!

Probably not doing the knife justice.
Got me thinking, a cutting tool was probably a prized possession. Just think about how much easier it made life.
The knife maker was a rock star for sure!
I'd strap it around my neck or maybe over the shoulder or maybe just carry it and never let it go.

and finally:

KISS sheath.

Not too shabby I think for someone who's only experience with leather was some watchbands and ammo pouches.
Sheaths are not as easy as they look.
You really need to think things through or you'll run into some trouble later, probably when you are at a point of no return.
If you know what I mean.

Already thinking of the next design!
Until the next blade...

Simple and fast!

Got a spring clip behind.

So I started to think about what I need in a sheath.
I need it to be high ride. I don't want the bottom extending below my shirt.
Don't really need a retention device for vertical carry; maybe for horizontal.
Bottom of sheath shape should not be recognizable as a knife sheath.

The leather I've been using is like 5-6oz but it's really soft.
I got in some 8-9oz, stiff vegetable tanned stuff.
First attempt:

A little small. Couldn't do any stitching so it's just glued together.
The sheath it came with is above. One problem with a lot of sheaths is you need to move the retention strap or the blade will cut it. I already shaved this one and I don't like the snap closure.
Dimensions are asymmetrical so when the handle goes in the shape is not so goofy.
I tried a two way belt loop:

I probably need to beef it up some but I need to make the dimensions a little larger.

Next I did a sort of one fit all sheath:

A little small for my new Wharncliffe, but it works.
Friction retention and same two way loop.
Still working on the dimensions some.
I'll cover the sheaths with something nice or just use some wood stain on them.
The nice thing about making your own is you can 'customize' them for how you intend to carry!
