Always wanted a Camillus 1760, but the ones I found were either to beat up, or on Ebay seemed to go to high.

Was down around Paducah, KY last weekend and in an antique mall found this 1996 one, that appears to be in new condition for $17.00!!!

Hi Bear Claw -

I recently was given one of these as well - and I always wanted to handle one too!

My wife was cleaning out her mother's home as she has moved into a nursing facility, and she found a 1988 Camillus knife just like the one you posted.

It likely belonged to my wife's father, who has since passed away.

I will treasure it and then pass it on to my son when I leave for the blade show in the sky.

best regards -

Nice find. I have always wanted one myself. How does it compare to a Vic. soldier or Wenger standard issue in your opinion?

I have one of these that I was able to keep from when I was in the Marine Corps. I was in charge of our tool room for a short time and ordered a box of them for our shop. They came 10 to a box (1-each in clear plastic sleeves). I traded one to the tool room nco in arty section for one of the black Cammilus electrician's knives as the camp/utility wasn't available to him for some reason, so I have one of each.
Great knife, I have a leather shoelace attached to the bail of mine.

Good for you! It's always cool to finally zero in on one you've been waiting patiently for.
You'll find the finish a tad rough on these but they are pure hard working tools and not pocket dandies.

Glad you got it.
Nothing beats satisfying that itch for a specific blade.

Congrats!

i picked up the same knife a month ago at the county surplus facility for 5$. this wharehouse is where the airport & law agencies bring confiscated knives to.

Not nearly as nice as far as fit, it sorta looks like the neanderthal cousin of the Standard Issue's. Sort of a big clunky version of them.

Seems pretty solid though!

Is the main blade on that one in the OP saber ground? I have the same model marked USN, that I traded a Camillus Electrician's Knife to a member here for. It's a flat grind, and all the pics I've seen of these knives show the main blade with a flat grind. I never know they were given a # designation of 1760.

thx - cpr

I guess it is, it's not a full flat grind/

I think it's the Camillus model number.

Here's a good page on them.

Thanks - good to know. That blade looks STOUT, more so than the regular issue Demo's.

I carried a 'demo' knife in the (Israeli) Army and my reserves for 14 years.
I was in Rescue, and I used the knife all the time
I had it on a lanyard and would have lost it for the amoount of times I dropped it when working from heights
The spring to the bottle opener broke, but I kept it in position using my thumb and it worked!

My daughter goes into the Army next month, so I will get her a Vic. Pioneer.
