Well, guys, I got the call that I start training with Search And Rescue of Central Florida in two weeks, so I think I'll pick up a SARK when I finish the classroom stuff(medical cert, basic stuff) and start the field training. Of course, I'm gonna want an Emerson by my side so why not one designed for what I'll be doing?
Any search and rescue guys here? Any use the SARK?

That is awesome news man, congratulations!! My ex-son in law was in SAR in Jacksonville for a while; but he is a dumbass, I don't even think he knows what an Emerson is, but that is besides the point. Are you NAVY? Whatever branch you belong to, thanks for your service for all of us; I salute you Riley! The SARK is a very good choice for your job man, very wise to think about it, and I hope you get one or more.

Not any military, but just volunteer basis as of now. We do work with police for the most part though.

confused search and research central florida what does that mean?

Search and rescue? Finding lost hikers, sort of like wilderness first responders?

Oh okay, I gotcha. As far as I know, it encompasses a large portion of "central" Florida. I know we definitely do stuff in Ocala national forest, I believe just about everywhere or anywhere we're needed that's considered Central. I know we primarily work with the sheriff's office, as most of our calls come through them. I live in Deland and was told several instructors are from there as well, but the classes are in Altamonte.

Thanks, I'll definitely divulge any Emerson stories I can, haha.

Now to decide between a regular sark and a p-sark.

Awesome. Looking forward to it.

Cant help ya there. Own lots of emersons but no sarks.

Well, I have to word this gently lol...definitely get an Emerson, but for your dedicated "use to help someone knife" I have to recommend the Spyderco Assist Salt. Obviously, your knife (and everything else) is going to get wet and the Florida climate in general is very humid so the rust proof H1 steel will really help. The design is very well thought out, blunt tip to slide under seat belts and not stab people, serrations to cut belts/straps, glass breaker, materials impervious to most conditions.

Why not get an Emerson as your general utility knife? Something like a Commander or CQC-8? Maybe even a clip point ETAK or SheepDog? I assume you will be wearing some type of cargo/tactical type pants so carrying more than one knife isn't unreasonable.

Emerson for general purpose use paired with Assist Salt for rescue specific use makes a lot of sense to me.

I'm also a Spyderco fan, so it's not out of the question for an Assist salt. I do like the whistle and glass breaker. I will have an Emerson on me regardless if I get the Spyderco or sark

I have seen a couple SARKs sharpened into P-SARKs and I can't tell unless looking at the logo/name.:)

I use my SARK regularly. I am a LEO so it is my most used and all purpose knife. Other Emerson's fill the role a GTFOM tool. My SARK has cut clothes off people for medical purposes and the blunt tip has been used to scrape, screw and loosen. Good luck with SAR and deciding on a new Emerson.
