If you check out my profile, you might see that I'm the quintessential lurker. For the past several months, I've spent a lot of time reading along here on The Porch and really appreciate all the info and camaraderie. You gents certainly stoked my interest in slipjoints, and I'm slowly checking out different patterns as funds allow. I only have a few knives in my small collection.

But I had been on the hunt for quite awhile for the best companion to my beloved Bark River Adventurer. It was a 10th Anniversary gift from my wife and I've found it to be a perfect EDC fixed blade. It's truly with me 29 days out of 30, and not just out of sentimentality. I've been trying various other knives with it, primarily because I wanted a better fruit slicer, and also for other small tasks. The Adventurer can most definitely cut, but sometimes it's like taking a splitting maul to a plum or apple.

Anyway, I've carried some modern folders, tried a few GEC patterns, and I really think my search might be over.

I've always loved the looks of the 92 Talon but could never be at the right place and time on the exchange. Well, I finally tracked one down, and it's in beautiful maroon micarta covers that match my beloved Adventurer.

As I had hoped, it fits perfectly in this dual pocket sheath.

Gotta say, it hasn't been around too long, but I love this thing.

Can anyone give me a little history on this run in maroon? I honestly didn't know they were made, so obviously it was back in the days when GEC wasn't really on my radar. Thanks!

That is a gorgeous Talon and a fantastic looking pairing. I love the pocket sheath too, its a great idea. As far as the production date, I will let someone far more knowledgeable than myself provide an answer, I am still figuring out the basics. :D

Congratulations on your good fortune and Merry Christmas to you and your family!

The tang stamp ends in 14 so that's the year of production. I just wasn't sure if this was a decent sized run with these covers. I only recently learned they exist and had never seen any.

That's a great pair! I have been in kind of the same search, but I was looking for a small fixed blade. I, too, went with BRK. In my case, I went with an Essential EDC.

If I'm looking it up correctly, I think there were only 5 made.

Wow. Really? How would that have happened?

How many hearts am I going to break with that pic of me slicing up potatoes for tonight's dinner and the knowledge I'll be carrying and using this often? :)

Three thousand four hundred and twelve. Just kidding.

Seriously though, I'm seeing on GEC's Production Totals page that there were 5 each of the single blade and two blade bare ends made in Maroon Micarta.

Forgive my ignorance, but is it common for such a tiny number to be produced? Why would they even bother with that? Someone found a small stash of maroon micarta and they figured "what the heck?"

Very interesting stuff and I appreciate the help.

And would someone mind linking me to wherever those numbers are broken out. That would be a handy link to have as I learn more about other patterns. Thanks.

Well, it looks like the other four are that much rarer now...
Enjoy the knife!
