I saw this one at the New York show at Strider table. I talked to Strider team and the whole gang about the liner. Strider comfirm that liner is good enough for tarketed field and I believe the strider, Steve and Buck reputation. "I am definately sure this one is good for its intented purpose." However, when I asked a couple of fans at Strider table, every one gave thumbs down. For myself, I make my decision to get new version of 881 Tantopoint with a lot of modifications eventhough I alrady have one. I am the die hard fan for hightact folders from buck and I own many buck folder starting from 110 to buck mayo. But I have no taste for 882.

Thanks for your comments.

The 880 and 881 are great knives. They were designed primarily for use as a military folder and are the some of the strongest folders on the market. Unfortunately their design does not meet the specific requirements that the Law Enforcement community requested. If they meet your mission profile and you are authorized to carry them, then the 880 and 881 are perfect for you.

The 882 is a lighter, thinner, more functional utility knife that is much more affordable. The liner appears thin compared to other Strider-Buck folders but exceeds the required specifications for a Police Utility Knife. Our test bed is a local SWAT team that carries the 882 and uses abuses them with outstanding results. Here are some tasks they routinely use the 882 for:

Cutting drywall to insert camera equipment
Preparing demolitions (breaching charges)
Cutting wire
Cutting window screens
Prying trap doors in floors and ceilings
Cutting flex cuffs
Opening cases of ammo, etc (all day long, this from the Armorer)

To those of us who are use to carrying knives that have G-10 and Titanium it seems like the 882 can't be an effective tool. However the professionals who this knife was designed for seem to disagree.

Remember also that Buck and Strider both, have forever warranties that will cover our knives for as long as you own it.

Thanks,

Josh

Mr. Rummerfeld,

Thanks for your input. After reading all the less than glowing comments on the SBT, I still decided to order one anyway and am anxiously waiting for its arrival. It is good to see something designed expressly for the LE market instead of adaptations of miltary stuff, given that there is far less in common that most people think.

Josh,
Thank you for a polite reply which emphasizes the point you have made all along regarding this model: It was designed for a specific user group and it meets or exceeds the requirements they laid out. Period!
Regards to all,
Larry
